Hi All

I wanting to play with the exhaust on my bike and I am not sure if it will be a good mod or a bad one so I thought I would throw it up here and ask you all what your thoughts are on it..

So here is the thought

The stock exhaust pattern is 4 in 2 then into 1 then back int 2 (hope you can follow that ) what I wanted to do was where the pipe goes 4 into 2 keep in as 2 pipes all the way back then exit out the mufflers I was hoping that this wold give the bike a nice little thump to it and help with flow

The exhaust is currently it as follows stock manifold and collector then a 3/4 yoshi slip on's.

Any thoughts ???

I think it would be more trouble than its worth. If Arka, Yosh, etc race exhaust is 4-2-1-2 I would assume their R/D would have went 4-2-2 if it yielded more hp.

You would have to cut the headers where they all come together, before the EXUP valve and weld from there. If you got rid of the exup valve and dont have your ECU flashed you would throw a code.

I had a thread a while back where I tested out a custom exhaust that connected right after the exup, and other than weight I didnt really see any HP. difference. Granted I didnt get a custom tune, but without the cat and an aftermarket exhaust the 07-08 r1 flows pretty well.

Long story short, its probably not worth the effort unless you are bored and want to tweak on something.

I have removed the exup now so that isn't to much of an issue and as for cutting off at the headers that is where i was thinking i was going to cut it from and go from there.

I wasn't chasing hp it was more about sound i just don't like the sound of the yoshi slip ons' and well i want to play with t a little lol

The Idea behind having the exhaust come together is for performance as well as overall sound. For sound, you get the deep note of the 1 liter. If it happened to be 4-2, it would sound like two 500cc engines. The 4-2-1-2 gives it the rich sound that I personally love to hear. :)

The bike wouldnt sound like 2 500cc motors together because it wold be on opposite fiiring orders 1 and 2 together and 3 and 4 together so firing order isnt the same time so the exhaust could flow more because there is less restrictions

as for peformance with a n/a motor back pressure is most impotiant and that would happen more in the headers before the collection pipe also longer header pipes or shorter collection pipes change the way the motor will pefore top end bottom end etc..

Most of it is the bike does not have that deap crisp sound that i also love

Yes i am sure that there are reasons to why this hasn't been done hence why i asked my questions..

I have a little knowledge in exhaust systems but this is from cars and i was not sure how it would work thats why i asked..

I am wanting a better sounding exhaust this 3/4 yoshi is just not cutting it for me

I went with Leo Vince Y-Pipe and A&R Race Baffles. A buddy of mine told me it sounds like an indy car when it's high in the revs. I love the sound of it, but doing the race baffles was a pain, that is the removal of the spot welds and reassembly of the cans.

I had that same setup and yes it was loud as f$ck. My ears would ring after a long ride on the highway.

I know where you can get the sound your looking for . I had these on my zx10 and it sounded just like you described . Jason at Hard Rock Motorsports out of spokane wa. Stand up company and very loyal guy. He will stand behind his pipes and fix anything wrong with it including color changes at half price . Heres his link

I hadn't thought of then i had seen them when i was looking for a new exhaust on the CBR i had i ended going with the hyperflo and they were perfect.

I did have the thought of trying to get the hyperflo set onto the R1 because hyperflo do not make a set for the 07
