What is my R1 worth??

Im really thinking about selling my R1, even if it is going to break my heart, but it may be the smartest thing to do for me, or I will either end up with big troubles or will hurt myself (check my other threads "riding in NM" and "busted, need advices"). So it is a 2002 R1, the silver one, with 5000 miles on it. I changed a few things on it (not everything is on the pic): PCIIIr; smoked windshield;breeded brake lines(Front and Rear);EBC HH pads;M4 carbon high mount exhaust;Graves Velocity stacks;carbon fiber rear fender, front fender, frame covers, inner pannels;frame sliders;M Toby steering damper;Front and rear sprockets;fender eliminator;turn signal integrated front and rear;new Michelin Pilot Powers. The bike is mint, the only thing is it has a salvage title, don't know why!The previous owner laid the bike down. So how much is my baby worth??
And should I take the bike back to its original configuration and sell the parts on Ebay??Thanks for your help.

It's going to be a lot harder to sell due to the salvaged title. I'd take off the mods and sell them here or on ebay to recover the most $$$$ then sell the bike for as much as you can.

$4000??? Isn't it a bit low... On Kelley Blue Book, a Yamaha R1 2002 is worth $7130, with an average of 15000 miles...since I have only 5000 miles on it, it is worth $7500, and then if you had all the parts... So okay, it has a salvage title, I understand that makes the bike lose value, but I read it is between 10 and 20%.... so If we start at $7500, that's $1500 less (if you take 20% off), so it makes the bike worth $6000, stock. Does it make sense?? Or do you think Im dreaming here? This bike is in perfect condition, there is nothing wrong with it, so I was kind of expecting more than $4000 (as a reference, I bought it for $6300 from a dealership in November 2004 and the bike had 3200 miles on it and was stock apart from a Yoshimura TRS carbon exhaust).

KBB doesn't buy bikes...People with cash do. There's a difference. I sold my 03 w/ 7600 miles for $6600, bone stock. Granted, I made about $3000 by parting out the mods and gear but I would have never gotten $9600 for the bike as is. Hell, I couldn't get a bite for $8000 and I had $14K in the bike, mods, and gear. Part out the good stuff and sell the bike for about $4500.

More like 50% less than book becasue of the salvage title. I wish you luck, I wouldn't buy a bike with a salvage title unless I could steal it or was only going to use it on the track. I have a friend that just sold his real clean 03 limited ed. w/3,400 miles. The dealer told him it was worth $6,500. That's with a clean title...

Wow! Seems that I got ripped off by the dealer who sold me the bike for $6300, and that Kelley Blue book is way off on the price for a R1. As for the bike, what is the problem with a salvage title, if it is running like new?? You wouldn't be able to tell this bike has a salvage title for sure if you were to see it for real and test ride, I can bet on that. The only problem I can see is that you won't be able to insure the bike full coverage, since the bike has no value for the insurance... Well, I guess this is the biggest problem right??

and your buddy believed the dealer? obviously a dealer is going to try and buy it at the cheapest price possible and sale it for way more than that. otherwise it wouldnt be worth their time.

btw... a salvage title bike is worth on avg %20 - %30 less than book.

HOWEVER, i would not buy a salvage title bike PERIOD. unless i was planing on destroying it as stunt bike, or turning it into a track bike and never getting any money out of it.

basically, your bike is going to be a bitch to sell my friend. everyone has their own opinions on salvage titles, and basically some are bad opinions, and others are TERRIBLE opinions. my advice to you is to keep your bike, or to sell all the parts off of it and get what u can for it.

Thought of parting the whole thing out? not just mods...but the whole bike...bet you could get quite a bit out of the engine and frame...plastics are worth a penny or two...rims as well....make a list and put prices next to each item that you can sell...bet you could get more than 6k for it.

I didn't realize the word "Salvage" would be that bad for a vehicle, I wasn't really aware of that, and even if I had doubt about it, the dealer was very clear explaining me everything and told me it wouldn't be a problem later to sell it.... Im not american, and I guess he just took advantage on me, because I don't really know all the rules and laws here... I have this bitter feeling again that I got screwed (paid $6300 for the bike), I got screwed already when I bought my first car here in US,a Chevy truck... I don't have much luck with vehicles obviously here, and it starts to really piss me off that everybody is trying to rip me off... is there any one serious in US or what? Someone who won't bs you as soon as he can, pretending he is your friend or whatever... Im gonna end up buying a bicycle, maybe I won't have any troubles then...it sucks anyway

yeah, unfortunately your between a rock and a harder rock. I would part out the mods atleast and then try to sell the bike. if the bike doesn't sell in a reasonable time to you then I would think about parting it out. you might get lucky though and find someone looking to make a track bike out of it.

If you do decide to part out the mods if that's a ZG double bubble i'll take dibs.

Cool, I can get $30 for the ZG double bubble and $5 for the bike so far....didn't lose much in the process... LOL...Sabian if it is you on the picture I'll send the bike to you for $5....I will give you $5 actually just to meet you...lol
Im not really in a hurry to sell the bike by the way, I will be in US until May 2006, so I will probably put it in Autotrader locally and will see if I get ppl interested. What price should I start with?? And should I tell right away that the bike has a salvage title or should I tell it after the person saw the bike and rode it (not after he bought it, I wouldn't do that, just a question of honnesty)??

Oh, and you can sell the DB by itself...that way you can get 35 for it...not a bad deal....I'll pm ya with my address for shipping reasons. :)

And of course you are not Tara Reid, aren't you? LOL. And of course you are a man... Im not interested in selling my bike to you for $5 then, we have to cancel the deal...Sorry Sabian, you won' get my salvage R1...

Come on, Im starting to think that I should just put my bike in the dumpster after what Im reading here...Tears are coming to my eyes (do they come anywhere else by the way??), my R1 is dying...arghhhh.... no one wants it?? Okay too late, Im going to make her jump into the Grand Canyon....a good end...

i'll talk to some people around here to see if they may be interested...

See, everybody is lying to me here in US, even Tara Reid is not Tara Reid... and I thought I would finally find a sexy american girl and I was forgetting about my bike...lol... Sabian, thank you for your help anyway, I appreciate
