When I Look at kawi, yami, cbr1000rr or the gixxer. I think the R1 is the best bike overall. Am I wrong here? Not just because I own one but our R1s are just so much better even when I look at my buddies 1000rr the parts on it just look cheap like the rearsets, the massive frame and it looks like it was built cheap. My 08 R1 looks so much better from every angle especially close up when I look how yami made everything for that bike.

We were debating this last night a group of us. 3 cbrs 2 gixxers and me on my Raven. They all love my bike but they all claim its place is in 3 or 4th with kawi. I disagree i told them to f off and R1 is number 1. Lol they just jelouse probably.

They kept saying if you go to bike week all you see is HOndas and they are the best bikes bla bla bla

Im like I only Ride the One. I told them at the end This is a BMW compared to your bikes :)

You asked this on R1-FORUM. What answer do you expect?? :p

Speaking of BMWs, I'll wait until the S1000RR hits the streets to render judgement on the original question.

Hondas are rock-solid. After moving from a GM vehicle to a Honda vehicle, I am thoroughly impressed and would have probably bought a Honda if I had fit my ogre-ass better on it.

That being said, the R1 always seems to be the "sleeper" of the class. People think ill of it because it's just a pretty face, but honestly, they're always doing something to improve the bike. The 07-08 model handles ridiculously, and the 09 with the XPCS has the track-nerds making messes in their pants.

The kinds of things that make it a beast to ride for someone who knows how to ride makes it inferior to the kickstand-party crew. Namely, things like it not having the most horsepower in its class. So you're gonna have to deal with "haters".

The truth is that most people can't ride literbikes hard enough to tell the difference between one and the other...so whatever you hear from your buddies is worth poop.

If it makes you feel bad, though, you could always get one of these:

If I have any beef with Yamaha, it's that the technological advances they come out with every year complicate the design of the bike and just present more things that can go wrong.

At least they lost the damned EXUP in 09.

I owned HOndas Cars all the time and they are the best built. However We ride hard twice a week we put about 150 miles each time. We are not that crew that goes to the beach and parks the bike. There is about 10 of us and most of the time 7 ride twice a week. Last night we rode and I put 200 miles just last night.

I agree with R1 being the sleeper lol. Well I think even the R1 forum is going to give me an honest answer.

Honda seems to have the most devout "fanboys" of any brand. I have friends who will not buy any powersport-vehicle that's not a Honda. Some go as far as to refer to Yamahas and Suzukis as "off-brands". LOL

My vote is for the Ducati 1098. In terms of reliabliltiy, I would have to go with the R1. My 1098 is very temperamental and quirky, but in performance and looks its a 10. Something about the R1 sets it aside from the GSXR's, CBR, ZX's... It just looks like its all business 7 days a week ;)

I think it's a matter of personal preferance. All of the liter bikes are so close in performance it comes down to what you're partial towards. Sure the R1 doesn't have as much power as the others and sure the power band is high in the RPM range but it looks like sex on wheels. That's why I chose an R1 as my bike. :)

even my buddies who ride kawi, suzuki, and gsxr all admire the top notch quality and build on the R1....

even my friend with a CBR says the paint and build on the Yamaha is top notch....

they are all good....but Yamaha has definitely tops in the fit and finish department right now, even a notch above Honda...

Have you ridden the MV Agusta, Roo? I almost bought one, but went with the 1098R instead. My friend bought a new MV 1000R F4. Uncomfortable as fawk for me. I'm sure I'd grow into it but the seat height is also too high for my 5'8" frame and that's a deal breaker.

The intake growl on the MV Agusta screams like a bloody symphony, it's intoxicating to listen to. Almost sounds like a Ferrari motor or something. Great bike, I'm just glad I didn't buy one.

my R1 is a streetbike. I don't care if it has 5-10 hp less than an 09 whatever. it looks pretty and I'm perfectly happy.

If I want HP, got another bike for that anyways.

I Love My 09 R1 It Is Definatley My Favourite 1000 In 6 Years

My Best Mates 08 Blade Is Awesome And He Loves It

One Of My Other Gixer Mates Has Moved From K7 - K9 And Is Over The Moon

The Point Is All Theses 3 Bikes Are All Very Good, It Depends On What You Like In Your Bike, And The Aspects Of Your Ride That Is Important To You And Can You Get That From Your Chosen Bike

For Me R1 09 Ticks All My Boxes And It Is 6 Years Since A 1000 Has Done That For Me

You can't go wrong with either. Ducati has stood behind their product solidly, in my personal experience.

The amount of power and speed the 1098R generates is ridiculous. It's WAY overkill for street riding as, I'm sure, all the Japanese literbikes are these days. Lump the MV in there as well.

1198r, but if were talking big 4 then the gsxr looks like its a dime a dozen and the rr looks like it ran into the back of a pick-up which leaves me torn between the r1 and 10r. the r1 is the only one that still uses the out-dated under-tail exhaust and looks crappy if you convert it to a more modern moto gp style (tail section only), but it looks mean as hell from the front :thumbup.
the 10r looks like an alien tadpole from the front :fire but looks trim and sleek from the rear. so i guess what im saying is to me none of the 09's do it for me 100% in the looks dept. the 04-05 10r is still the best looking japanese bike to date :rock

ps. i know the duc has an under-tail exhaust too but theirs looks good, plus its one of their trademark things, along w/ a single sided swingarm and dry clutch :)

I must confess Ducati's do nothing for me at all. Infact i would go as far to say as i wouldn't want one at all.

As for which is the best litre bike, i guess that depends on what you are looking for. MCN do quite good test with some experianced racers and your average street warriors to try and get a balanced judgement. The best bikes were as follows

2006 = GSXR
2007 = YZF-R1
2008 = Fireblade
2009 = YZF-R1

Ofcourse others will have differing opinions. I don't think it is possible to have a "bad" litre bike these days though, so it doesn't really matter. for me i choose R1 based on looks, as they are all poo your pants fast.
