What model's shocks are interchangeable?

I was checking out the part numbers for Elka shocks, and they're the same for 98-06 R1s. Are all the shocks completely interchangeable on all model years?

i.e. if I got a bargain on a 98 or 05 Ohlins would it fit my 03?

Oh, and while I'm at it, what about rearsets?

Although they show the same Elka part number, they are separated by groups of years.

98 - 03
04 - 07

And the reservoir is cited as being different between those. Likely because of the change in swingarm and undertail exhaust on the 04 and up.

Also, I believe that in 02 there was a change to the length of the shock absorber.

I would recommend finding something for the 02 - 03 that has been recently serviced, or having your own shock rebuilt by Racetech, Traxxion or any one of several different suspension companies.

98 to 03 will fit yours. 02-03 got stiffer spring then 98-01

But 98-01 shock won't work on 02-03.
