My advice would be to get it serviced properly. I haven't noticed any filling/drain holes on mine.

 

Must admit i haven't actually looked properly at it for the drain/filling holes and after posting this i did a quick google and it says the oil is pressurized so perhaps they are not easily diy servicable like some dampers... arghhh why can't things be easy lol

Thanks fella, i don't think anything to do with the rebuild is to do with the headshaking.

There's just two things that aren't helping..
My steering damper has play in it.
I need to set my suspension up better as it's squatting on hard accelleration too much making the front go light and i'm a bit hard on the direction changes as that's one thing i love about the r1.

 

had a look at the damper and it's got an allen key hole on the opposite end from the adjuster knob so i'm guessing this is the fill/drain hole.

So just another try, does anyone know what oils best to use?
Has anyone rebuilt an ohlins steering damper on here?

I'm thinking i might actually have to use the phone and ring round a few shops that do this kind of work... please save me the hassle lol

 

I would call ohlins... you paid so much for the damper... its the least they could do... but good luck getting a hold of someone

 

are youy sure it;s not your steering head i had like 10mm of play in my steering and it waas the head nut not tight enough not the damper

 

It could be the head nut, that's my mission this weekend too recheck everything on the bike as i've done about 200 miles since the rebuild now.

 

use fork oil.
