In my 03 i put in water wetter and the temp was from 163-167.I also heard that water wetter will make the temp high after 2 months in the bike.Is that true??Also i did a little research and found the some guy said that green colored is the best coolants. He also suggested to use boat coolant boats reach very high temps.Any help would be wonderful.THX

Plain water has the best conductive properties.

That said, you need something to inhibit corrosion in the system and to provide some lubrication for the water pump.

The best combo is probably going to be regular 50/50 water/coolant, with a few ounces of Water Wetter thrown in to improve the surface tension of the mix.

You could also go Engine Ice for a little more money.

FYI: You only need an ounce or two of Water Wetter per quart of coolant.

i doesnt freeze here so i dont use antifreeze... i currently use what a track day organization recomended called maxima kool-aid or something like that... best of luck with this

If you're using an entire bottle of Water Wetter in the relatively tiny cooling system of a motorcycle, then you're defeating the purpose of the product. Redline states on the side of the bottle to only use an ounce per quart of coolant. It's actually a poorer conductor than straight water - its only purpose is to increase the surface tension of water, theoretically improving the conductivity of heat between the coolant and radiator.

And no, there is no oil supply to the water pump.

I understand you Brutha. Now,,, back to the coolant thing.

I ran the recommended amount of Water Wetter in my 06 R1 track bike and it cooled it off by about 8 or 9 °F. I was happy with that. Aron has forgotten more about engine tuning than I've ever known. Just wondering what the point of this thread was. :dunno

Watter Wetter works by making the heat transfer more efficient. So the water doesnt cling as it circulates. Kinda like Rainx on windshields.

As for shaft seals, I haven't torn in to one yet but don't these bikes run a carbon/ceramic mechanical type shaft seal? Those don't need any lubrication.
Yes, but if that seal should start to leak there is still the oil seal behind that.
They call it a "mechanical seal, so without looking at one it's hard to say what
the material is.

This has peaked my curiosity. I may order one to inspect.

the 'point' with 'any' coolant, is to get air to cool it!:fact
personally i use engine ice as it cools quicker than regular coolant as soon as the bike is moving through the air again.

NOTHING will help a bikes water temp when stationary(like at traffic lights)

the 'best' thing you can do is get a manual fan switch in line so you can turn the fan/s on earlier.:fact

Can you use al radiatior auto cooler in a R1? The bike shops stuff is like $16/L and you need 2.7L. I bet the auto stuff is muuuuuch cheaper.

This would be for standard road use eg 0-150/160 mph (if in Germany for example), not for track use.

IDK, I tried a bunch of coolant combos... nothing cooled better than it did with the stock coolant. So for the hell of it, I picked up some yamacool. And sure enough, temps were back down like the orignal stuff(163).
