You don't get it, the dealer doesn't know because no one knows.
In hindsight, that's not totally true... someone knows, but they're not telling!
Also, when Yamaha releases their model info and dealer allocations, each dealer should know about when they get a particular model and color on a delivery month basis. i.e. 1 red R1 in March, 2 black R1's in April, etc. Yamaha does not use a Suzuki-style system for bikes. They only give a dealer a certain number of bikes for the year (usually based on the # of bikes they sold last year) and that's all the dealer gets. Suzuki will flood the market with their bikes, which is why you can find really good deals on them. If my Yam dealer sold 6 R1's last year, he can expect to get 6 this year. If he only sold 4 and he has 2 lay-overs... well say hello to 4 new bikes. Some dealers have enough pull that they can get several bikes and sell them at a reduced price because of volume (LakeHill Motors comes to mind), others, like mine, will hold on to the bike until someone pays MSRP for it.
