hey guys, ive been reading the pros of getting the flow commander, and have a few questions. most of yall have 2 of them, one for the pilot, and one more. must you use both of them or will one do the trick? and, if one will work, which one should i get, or do both of them come in the package. i have finally got my r1 running right after alot of fooking with the jetting, so do they compliment the new jetting or are they supposed to be used in lew of rejetting. i visited the site that martinc linked me to, but they really didnt go into detail about the ins and outs of the system. it seems like something that i definately want to get. ive done just about all i can do without getting into the engine to gain hp, and this seems like a must have. any help is greatly appreciated. thanks

If you are going to use two FC systems, one is for the pilot air circuits, the other for the main air jet circuits. If you are going to try out one FC only, do the main circuits, but I recommend both. The FCs compliment proper jetting changes, and smooth out the system by allowing the air uptake for the main air jets (and pilot air jets if you do that one too) to have a common pick-up, making tuning changes more uniform to all the carbs. The deep power drop in the low end (and lower midrange in some cases) with a full system (since the EXUP is sacrificed) is smoothed out noticably. The Pilot circuit FCs help with idling quality and initial partial opening throttle response from 5-10% throttle opening. After that, you are on the main air jet systems. You won't regret it if you get them. Steve Kesselring of Performance Design has invented an incredibly good performance and tuning enhancement product that is complete down to the minutest of details, and is substantially underpriced. Steve is personally very helpful including after the sale to make sure you have everything working the way it should, and to even invent something like this, you have to have some very serious technical and practical understanding of carburation.

Sorry, that didn't answer your question, did it ?

I'm busy setting up and getting both circuits to work. I'm first concentrating on getting the main circuit right and then I'll tackle the pilot circuit (again).

Both Eyespy and myself have experienced some problems with the standard pilot circuit adapters and he's now very happy with the leaner adapters from Steve. We both experienced too rich pilot circuits. My theory sofar is that it is a combination of the Ivan's airbox mod and maybe float levels too high.

I would suggest that you order both the standard and leaner pilot adapters when you order this circuit kit.

I would go with both circuits. If it works great for the main then double the benefit to use the pilot also.

Which one to go with first ? A matter of choice and if you're trying to solve a specific problem that choose that circuit. My advice would be to go with one circuit at a time though. Get one sorted perfectly first and then the next one on.

Make sure you also order the diffusers to filter the air properly. (and it look sexy !)

In this thread there's pics of Eyespy's setup.

Oh, great product - concept and quality - and nice people to do business with.

Clarythedrill, So what are the final settings you stuck with in the end?
Did you use the factory supplied needles, pilot jet and what float height?
Just trying to build up a knowledge base before I rip into mine later this week. Thanks.

well, at the dyno run i had 135 mains, size 20 pilot jets, the clips were at the middle position with a washer under them, and the screws were at 3 turns out. float hieght was set at 10mm. the bike turned out 141 hp and 75ft/pd. everything was out of the factory jet kit. there was a jagged spot on the dyno graph from 6-7000 rpm, but the rest of the line was pretty good. i have already changed those settings trying to get rid of a problem that comes up when im cruising on the interstate. the bike would speed up and slow down like someone was tapping the brake or something. under flat out acceleration you didnt notice anything wrong, just while cruising. however, your bike might not do this. good luck, hope those settings above work or get you in the ballpark.
