I see a lot of you guys going crazy for the 07 R1. Yes, it has a little more power but I would rather have the style of the 04-06 R1 over the 07. The new swing arm and tail just don't do it for me. Which style do you guys prefer?

I agree.. don't like the fairings, swingarm. I do like some of the engine and tranny improvements. Not enought to justify a purchase.

04-06 hands down. I am usually someone to love to upgrade for the better, but i will spend a little more to make my 06 perform better. Not that it doesnt already hall arse and perform great. But the new style just doesnt set right with me. It does look way better than any other liter bike besides the 1098. But the 04-06 is just one sexy beast.

I still prefer the '02-3 in silver to any of the newer R1's but given this choice I like the slightly more agressive look of the '07.

Only thing I like about the new one is the slipper clutch and the YCCI, but I haven't ridden one yet to know the difference.

have to go with 04-06.

the 07 i dont like how the tail is smaller but the exhaust shows more. Plus i think the new swingarm make hot foot even worst, since the pipe runs right behind the peg. Plus Im not feeling the new side panels.

but mostly, i dont like all the new electric stuff. like the extra power, but i beleive the moving parts the more chances for problems in the long run.

And we all know that aggressive look means it looks faster....and will be more aggressive on the track:riding ....and turn more aggressive track times. Hahahahahaah just joking guys, don't get hurt:chair:. I would take my 06 any day, but the 07 is an R1 so you have to love it. Just not keen on its looks.

I'll have to see the real world numbers. As it looks now it's like 6 HP more but they went backwards in styling to me. I love the 06 R6 look but they either should have done it on the 07 R1 all they way or not at all. It seems like they picked elements off of the R6 to put on the R1. 04-06 is the best to me so far then the 03. I'd still love to get my hands on a good 03 black and red if I had the cash.

Still can't beat the aesthetics of the 02-03 in liquid silver. Still wish I had my 03 R6 sitting beside her but, such is.

HEHE...post number 1K too!!

I liked the Blue/White Champs edition paint as well as the limited flame painted bikes, but as far as body lines go the winner is the 04/06 bikes - hands down, SEXXY curves rivaling anything from Italy!

the 07 looks cobbled together from the sharp edgy angles of the new R6 & the older 04/06 bikes, so in the design department it does not look like a refinement of the past or a new design, but something of a compromise between the two. It has not grown on me. Hard to argue with MORE power, jury is still out on that. Hopefully the new bike will live up to all the hype surrounding the new motor.

i hate to say it, but i have a feeling that most who say they like the 04-06 r1 better are just trying to give reasons not to ditch their bike and start all over again. Happens with everying we own. What we own MUST be the best or else we must replace it lol...it's an american thing.

i like them all to be honest...

It's natural to get some type of response like this but not on the order of over two out of three people prefer the outgoing model. Likewise, it is also natural to get a response to the contrary from people who just need to have the "newest model." While the polling data is not even close to being scientific it is indicative that Yamaha dropped the ball on this bike.

The new '07 is not that pretty of bike. As a previous posted stated its design is a cobbled together compromise between sensuous body lines and aggressive styling. The two styling philosophies do not mix well and I don't know about all of you but I like my women pretty.

IMO they would have been better off with an entirely new body like the new R6 if they wanted to pursue aggressive styling instead of pissing off the classic lines of the 04-06. I had high hopes for the '07 as Yamaha tends to upset the balance of power in styling and performance among the open class superbike manufacturers every nine years ('89 FZR1000 and '98 YZF R1's were light-years ahead of their competition). What we got was not revolutionary. Not even close.

I'll be patiently waiting for the '09 or '10 when they fix the problems they created, or ignored, with this bike.
