At PPIR (Pike's Peak Int'l Raceway) last month, coming out of turn 3 (the hairpin), I low-sided, let go of the bike, watched it stand up (thinking to myself "what a good looking bike") and flip over to the highside. Lucky for me it stayed on the highside and didn't start tumbling. Bar-slider & frame-slider took most of it (bent the bolt for the frame slider!). Exhaust, footpeg and lower cowling took most of the rest. The edge of the upper fairing and brake lever both got a bit scraped, but NOTHING BROKEN! :rock
I was doing 40-45 mph at the time. Not sure what caused it, combination of things I'm sure. It was a cold day, and I probably didn't lower my tire pressure enough (yes, the tires were warmed up - I'd already done about 5-6 laps at that point); there was a slipperly patch coming out of turn 3 that I might have hit (even though I didn't think I was on that line); I was following an instructor for a few laps at a faster pace than I was normally running (but everything seemed fine coming into, and going through the turn). *shrug* I guess we'll never know.
A friend of mine was following me with a video camera that session. I'm hoping to get a copy of that video today! No, he didn't get the crash - he got caught in traffic during the previous lap, and was a bit behind me. Hopefully he got some of the aftermath, though. The bike slid off the track into the infield, (which was muddy from rain the night before). I'll post some of the vid when I get it. Here are some pics of the damage - I still can't believe that nothing was broken!
