I have recently sold my 01 cbr 600 and I am presently debating between getting an 05 cbr 1000rr or an 05 r1 raven.

My question is why should I buy an R1?
What are my main advantages going to be?

Has anyone driven both bikes that can give me an educated opinion.

Any opinions are appreciated,Thanks

Welcome to the forum... As far as the bikes go, you cant go wrong with either one. The Honda is bad ass and so is the R1 and since you are probrably like the rest of us, you will never be able to take either of the bikes to its limits...
But before you make a decision, take a look at this thread

It is going to be hard as hell to get the CBR for that kinda price :thumbup

Since HONDA East sells the CBR 1K, I'm sure you could get a similar price. :yesnod I know one person who bought a Kawi 636 for $800 under MSRP from Honda East. Although now I see that integra is from Canada. Gonna be hard to get it over the boarder.

Why buy a R1?

Yamaha Reptitation. (sp?)
The looks. The R1 looks sexier than the 1000rr (in my opinion at least). Performance. R1 drives like a best. Do research on both bikes and see which one u like more. Sit on both bikes see which one u like more.

I would not go too much that route... As much as I like my R1 I think that Hondas are more reliable

honda is more reliable with almost all of their automotive products. At least reliable in a manner of it not breaking down on you or having the least amount of issues. But, at the same time, most of their products never really push the limits either (IMO). And, of course, if you don't push, then you limit the amount of problems you'll have.

Would you buy a $40,000 Honda car? Nope. Why? Because even though you know it's reliable, the vehicles arent worth it because they never put anything in them to make it worth that price. I feel the same way about their bikes. I like the Repsol, but other than that, Im not too fond of the bike.

New guy needs to just go try out both bikes to see what he likes more.

After you read up on all the info and narrow it down to a few key differences, besway IMO is to take both out for a ride-back to back along the same roads and make your choice based on which feels better for you:fact

Like buying a helmet, you can read and read about whch ones "others" say is better-but in the end its which feels best for you buddy:thumbup

Cheers.

It doesn't matter, their both beyond most of our capabilities.
The honda has a supposedly better chassis, and the R1 is 20lbs lighter. The R1 does look better and will pull more :boobies :fact
Whatever you do don't buy a suzuki, I own one and curse it every day.:2bitchsla

First of all Id like to say THANKS you guys are awesome Im a member in a lot of diff forums but I've never seen one as welcoming and eager to help as you guys!

My problem is goin to be that our local dealers are a##holes and will almost never let you take a bike on a test ride (which is why ill drive out of province to buy)so I have to rely on you guys and some of my prior exp wuth the two brands!

When I was making my decision, was stuck between the ZX10R and the R1.

But the CBR was considered also for a while. Personaly I hate the way it looks, everything about its asthetics looks pieced together at the last moment. The way the bottom fairing is just thrown on there, usualy in primer gray or black, screams dogshit to me. The exhaust never really looks right even if you take your time to make your aftermarket pipe sit correctly etc...

When I sat on the CBR I felt like I was sitting on top of it. When I sat on the R1, I felt more part of the bike. Im 5'11 170lbs if that helps with feeling dimensions.

The CBR just has way too much I'd need to do to it to make me like it, which is why I got the R1.

To me the R1 is only surpased by the italian beauties. It looks gorgeous and goes like stink.

And no Im not a poser, but like with my cars, I like to look at it and enjoy it too, not just have a fast but shitty looking bike.

Get whichever YOU like better though, go sit on em, try finding friends who have them, but it will be difficult/impossible to get a test ride on either. Performance wise both will be very close.

all anyone can really tell ya integra I guess is why they chose the R1...

so, here it goes:
I went to dealerships/bike shows and sat on every bike to first see what I felt most comfortable with in. That immediately ruled out the Honda CBR for myself. I didn't like the feel and how the bike balanced with its weight. It felt heavier than necessary (i'm a smaller rider) and the R1 and GSXR felt better with its weight. So, down went Honda.

The R1 to me still felt much lighter than the GSXR despite what Suzuki is claiming on their website as the bike being lighter. So, i started reading on the history between the two bikes, background, etc. They were pretty close. The extra weight of the GSXR wasnt bad (maybe 5lb-10lbs at the most) and I liked the styling. ALL EXCEPT THAT FREAKING UGLY ASS CAN! with the R1 and Gixxer being so close in performance, it now came down to simply a matter of style, and I felt that the R1 kicked the gixxer's ass up and down the block.

As stated several times already, I would go for what feels good when you sit on it as well as what looks good to you. Of course if you can test ride them you would have your answer. One point though that I see mentioned quite a bit. If a bike feels heavy while you are sitting still on it, that doesn't mean that same feeling will be there once the bike is in motion. I've had the opportunity to ride the 1000rr and although I did think it felt a little "heavy" standing still, this was not the case once the bike is in motion. It is very well put together and I wouldn't even put weight in the equation when considering one of the new bikes.

lol i dunno about you, but putting the CBR next to the raven just makes the CBR look even uglier to me hahaha!

It wasnt bad looking when standing by itself...but damn...put that sucker next to the raven and im like, "wtf was honda thinking?"
