Why do you ride...

So today I was asked a very simple question: "Why do you ride motorcycles?" It should be such a simple answer, but I had to think for a second. How can you explain to someone, who has never ridden a bike, why it's so exciting. Why, indeed, do I ride motorcycles? Sure, it's fun, but it can also be very dangerous. So now I ask you...why do you ride? Where did you get your start with motorcycles? Did you grow up watching races? Did your neighbor have a wicked bike when you were a kid? Does it run in your family? Is it an escape from the wife :fact? Or is the need for speed just running in your blood? I'm sure there could be some good responses out there, lets hear it! :thumbup

Flame away, but I bet in your 6,475 posts, you have never exactly specified why you started riding. The exact reason, or moment, that made you decide to start riding. Or maybe you have, and the other 6,474 posts were used to...well...write whatever it is that you write.

I've received some of those inspirational email with these answers... but hard to give one to a non rider person...

Why don't they ride?

Or...who cares? I ride because I enjoy it. Enough said. If they don't get it, that's fine - I don't get why people drive Volvo's.

unequalled performance per dollar with the fuel economy of a small car. you tend to see more on a bike, even streets you've previously passed before on your car. i enjoy going somewhere aimlessly for the hell of it on a whim. because it takes more skill to ride a bike well than a car.

Why do you ride?

Riding is the one thing that Ive found that can give me such a profound sense of Freedom. :rock

I ride because of the freedom it brings to me. It is just me and the bike versus the unknown. I don't have to listen to idiots yapping about nothing. I don't have to worry about a cell phone ringing. It takes my mind away from work better than any car I've owned. I like the sound of the motor, the wind hitting you as you accelerate through the gears, the feeling you get rounding corners at different speeds. I like the feeling you get as the temperature swings back and forth while zipping around bends and the smell of the open air. I also like little baby ducks but that is for another thread.

I believe there are two types of people who ride bikes.
Ones who do it for the commute or convenience.
Others who do it because its in our genes. We live it, we love it and we all accept the risks because the rewards out weigh them
