Why is the clutch so hard on the 07-08?

I'm used to my 2000 R1's clutch, which was never too hard to engage; I could ride in stop and go traffic, 2 finger style, with no issues.

Now, my 2007's clutch feels like I need to exert so much force to pull it in. It's even noticeable when I use all 4 fingers to pull it in. Is this common?

Can someone explain why, and if there's some way I can remedy it?

It make riding the bike unbearable, as my wrists and fingers are completely sore after short rides.

It's normal, but you are use to a much older and worn cable. The remedy is put on adjustable aftermarket levers like pazzo etc. I have titax myself. The stock clutch just felt "to far away" and that is what makes your hands tired.

After I changed both clutch and front brake I can use both with one finger.

Thats my two cents, I hope it helps.

I figured so much.

It's just odd how hard the OEM pull on the clutch is. I went to the dealership and sat on every single damn sportbike of various years, and the 07-08 R1 had to have been the worst of them all.

I guess Pazzo shorties are sooner on my buy-list, rather than later...

for one the clutch on 00 R1 uses a single diaphram spring. its basically a concave piece of metal ring that goes around plates and held in place by 6 bolts. the 04 and up uses conventional springs, 6 of them. but stockers shouldnt be that hard to pull, unless someone put a set of stiffer springs in bike. best bet is get different lever, one that is easier to pull for u. also maybe adjust the freeplay and give urself some extra room in cable so lever is closer to bar, and the breakover point is closer and easier for u. if u have it adjusted way out and little freeplay, ur hand is further out and breakover point will be harder to pull past. but there are things u can do to remedy the situation.

I have the 07 and my hands and wrists get sore too. I got the Pazzo shorties and they help, but its still a hard pull.

I got some clay to strenghen my left hand while Im at work, and I have switched to my left hand when I rub one out. Every little bit helps.

Not really sure why people say that shorty levers help because if you look at the simple physics... The force measured at a point further from the fulcrum to move a weight will be LESS than the force closer to the fulcrum to move the same weight.

So longer levers are easier to "clutch" then shorties... Unless you still use two fingers. LOL.

True, but the Pazzo levers are adjustable so you can adjust the amount of travel. Once the clutch lever is against the grip, its easier to hold. getting it against the grip took more travel on the stock levers.

Thanks to the 07 clutch, my left hand is now as strong as my right hand.
(Never mind why my right hand was stronger)

No debate here on which levers I'm going to get. I've always planned on getting Pazzo's. I know ASV has much better adjustable ability, but for aesthetic purposes, the Pazzo's look much better, IMO.

But, no question that I'm getting the Long Clutch/Short Brake combo. I never liked shorty clutch levers, as the ball end digs into my fingers when I use 2 finger style.

liked 'em so much on the R1 I put a set on the Honda. I've been pleased with their competitors too though
