why is the coolant blue?

ok so I haven't bought a new bike in 10 years. when did they start doing this

yup, mostly a safety thing i think... engine ice is BLUE in the bottle, turns green when its effectiveness has reached a low and needs replacing... its written on their site

it comes in many different colors. pink, blue, orange, green. all the colors mean a different level of protection

The dark blue coolant is super hard to get out as it's very blue dyed. and even though I flushed the system twice my water wetter for the track looks blue still. Going to have to flush a couple more times and throw more expensive water wetter at it.

The colour is just a dye that means nothing from a performance point of view. As others said, it's just there for leakage detection and there is no world or national standard for this. The only important thing to remember (if you do change your anti-freeze) is to never mix ethylene based and propylene based anti-freeze. They might not mix well. Again, the colour of the anti-freeze DOES NOT tell you which one you have got.

From a performance point of view, ethylene based anti-freeze would be considered as the "better" one but also as the more poisonous one.
