I'm getting rid of the stock ignition switch on my '05 and replacing with an aftermarket toggle switch. I've got the preliminary work done and there were no surprises in getting the ignition wired to the toggle to turn the ignition on/off. But there is a blue/yellow and blue/black set of wires that come from the stock ignition that I haven't figured out yet. Anyone know what this set of blue wires is for? Whether I have them plugged in or not doesn't seem to matter while the bike is running.

I'd be interested in hearing how you do this. I've been tossing the idea around myself turnign into a toggle switch.

I had heard a rumor...unsubstaniated of course that there was some sort of resistance that the key created. This blocked the abilty to "hotwire" the bike (what you are doing in effect. Aparently this is not the case? I take it you litereally cross both wires, or attach them to the switch and call it good right? Minus these blue wires you speak of...

Cool. I'll have a look at a service manual then and see if I can find out what the blue wires you speak of are.

From looking at the schematic, Blue/yellow & Black/Blue are connected when in the On position. Black/Blue is coming from ECM, it's monitoring the position of the Neutral sw & Side stand sw, clutch sw thru the Blue/Yellow. A safety interlock system, looking for the right combo to kill the engine(ignition) pg 8.8 manual......
