Hello All you fine R1 people out there, I seem to be having a problem with my 2000 Yamaha R1. Everytime I rev the bike (Cold Engine, Hot engine - doesn't matter) the cooling fan seems to spin up then spin down when throttle is left. Anyone ever have this issue before? would you sa that it may be a short somewhere on the bike?

Straight from the 00-01 supplemental manual:

If the engine is kept running at over 1,500
rpm for at least one minute with the switch
remaining placed in neutral position and
the throttle valve fully open, even when the
coolant temperature is low enough, the radiator
fan motor will start rotating. This,
however, is not trouble.

Not exactly what you're describing but it is normal under certain conditions. Don't know if I'd worry about it too much.

Thanks for the info. True, it is not a problem, I mean rather it runs then not at all. lol. I was just thinking it was strange because about 10 mins prior to discovering that, it had popped the main fuse from the battery to the starter relay, which I did then replace only to discover that the fan would spin up everytime I revved the bike

Mine does the same but when it activates on its own seems like its barely running/slow only for like 5 2 secs and cuts back off
