Not to jack the the original thread but it has steered away from the 07-08 models and mostly focusing on the 09-12 bikes so were gonna try and keep this one on the right track.

There are a few of us on here who have the interface and have tuned our own ecu's and helped out a few members on here as well and hopefully they are nice enough to drop by and share their experiences with us.

Ill start off. I have had my R1 since march of this year. Bought my interface back in june and been tweaking and tuning mine solely off the old butt dyno because lets face it.... dyno runs are $$$$.

This thread is open to any of you who are willing to share the older versions of the software and what you feel the Pros and Cons are to each. And if you have any PC3 or PCV tunes you are willing to share here is the place.

Welcome all and hope this thread becomes full of useful knowledge.

Note: the software is free to download at the following link: www.Flash-Tune.com/download

It is still in the developing stages and updates come out weekly but overall for the price it is probably the best bang for the buck.

Thanks all
Corey

Corey,

Good on 'ya for starting this. I watch the F-T thread regularly but get discouraged about the direction it takes.

I have the Interface and so far I haven't done too much with it. When I first got it, I flashed the 91+ F-T map into my otherwise stock bike and was very impressed. BUT, when F-T upgraded (several times now), I lost the low-end snap that I was so very impressed with. I don't know which version it was. I think somewhere around 1.1.2 or something like that.

Anyway, I just installed a set of Graves Slip-ons and plugged in the 91+ with the PCv Graves slip-on map over it. I haven't ridden it yet (tomorrow) but we'll see.

I also have the YEC map but I don't really know what I need to run that (i.e. full system, air filter, mid-pipe, etc). Any info on that would be appreciated.

Thanks for the posts guys. I have a copy of a PCV map for YEC setup as well and thats a full system, air filter, YEC valve springs and balanced crank shaft capabale of running 15500RPM redline. Hopefully member ToysAreForBoys will chime in on that one and he also has the link to the 1.2.2 version.

if not it is on JollyRoger's thread "slip on question" there is a link in there to download it. just make sure it stays in that folder so it cannot automatically update.

Unfortunately im out of the game for awhile, i low sided my R1 yesterday. need a few fairing pieces but i may just go with an Auctmart full body kit and either do the red/black/white anniv edition replica or blue and white fiat.

i rode with one of the maps supplied to me by JollyRoger and to be honest the bike ran great. engine braking at 100% and the only thing i found was in the 6-8k rpm range it would nose dive HARD and then the slightest application of the throttle would take off. once i figure out how to do screen shots ill share the YCCT maps with yall.

i posted 2 attachments. one is of the throttle map i was running, and the other is a good baseline map to start off with. the base line ran great IMO but will tweak more after my bike is back on the road.

Thanks again
GG

A dedicated 07/08 thread is top notch. Keeping on topic saves time in the search pane and browsing through pages and pages.

Im in south africa and we got mostly eu bikes, i paused my ft purchase bexause it seems the eu bikes are not AS restricted as urs and gains will not be nearly as much.

At the moment running 520 kit, bmc filter, decat pipe with 93/95 ron juice....would it be viable to do the ft? At the moment finances are tight to fork out money for a decent(ish) plumbing system

the biggest difference you will notice is the adjustability in your throttle control. You will also be able to use the power commander sample maps as well as maps from other users to be able to blend into your stock fuel map to clean up the lean and rich spots that currently exist. below is a posting of the stock ycct map and the other is the ycct (race) throttle map from flashtune all of which are fully adjustable throughout the RPMS

as you can see on the first chart your bike doesnt even open the throttle blades to 100% until 7500 RPMS and then they close back to 85% at 12500RPMS.

Now look at the 2nd image, notice the throttle transition is open by 6500RPMS and stays open at 100% all the way to redline?

Also the ability to adjust makes the bikes responsiveness much smoother.

Another added feature is to disable your exup motor in your exhaust keeping the butterfly open all the time, ideal for stock y pipe but can cause minimal loss of power with a aftermarket catless y pipe due to lack of backpressure.

Engine braking is adjustable as well adjustable at 2% incriments to adjust to your feel of how much "drag" you want for deceleration

There is a sticky on here done up by a fellow member on here with a FlashTune FAQ thread that is very informative and should be read prior to purchasing the interface so you know what youre getting into.

Haha, you'll fit right in with most of the guys here.

On a more serious note you can definitely utilize the FlashTune interface. There are a number of options such as a quickshifter, fuel/ign tuning, YCCT tuning, EXUP and AIS disable and speedometer correction.

As many people say, you can import Powercommander fuel maps for use in the ECU fuel maps. Realistically though, without an objective measure of the performance it would be pretty hard to claim that any loaded map improved or reduced performance (within reasonable limits of course). You best bet is to get a proper dyno tune or get yourself pretty close tuning your own bike with a wideband O2 sensor.

If you do that set your fuel bias to tps vs rpm only and shouldn't be a problem. I was reading somewhere on here that the o2 sensor only works below 5000 rpm.

The tps vs rpm bias is pretty much a preset fuel map. Think of it like this:

If "a" represents the throttle position sensor, and "b" represents your rpms, then your predetermined fuel value would be "c".

A x B = C

That is how it was explained to me. Hope that helps. I have had mine running with o2 sensor disabled for months with no negative effects.

Hope that answers your question.

So 8500RPM x 85% = the fuel output at 8500RPM and 85% TPS? Obviously not. That is a terrible explanation of how an ECU functions.

Try this: Fuel Output = Map_Lookup_Function(engine speed, TPS)

The O2 sensor is only used closed loop for a certain range of engine speed and TPS. That does not mean it's use doesn't affect other ranges not running the O2 sensor in closed loop. Personally, I haven't had my O2 sensor connected in almost 2 years. Dynojet recommends it in their Powercommander installation instructions.

Sort of. I'm not a dumb man but some of this tuning stuff makes me feel that way.

Ok, but with changes in altitude, will I have any issues?
I live at 4600' MSL and travel to Tucson (2300' MSL), up Mt. Lemmon (9000' MSL), sometimes to Phoenix (900' MSL) and love to make trips to the west coast (0' MSL). What a mess.

I shut my o2 off with the flash tune and my mileage was 25.7mpg riding at 9k + rpms. So I never noticed a significant drop in mileage.

Does this flash tune provide 07-08 R1's with the type of insane acceleration that the old carbed R1's (98-01) provide in the lower rev range as in below 6k rpm?

I ask this because currently i have a 00 R1 and an 07 R1 at the moment and will be selling the 07 R1 in the spring due to the lack of torque below 6k rpm.
Dont get me wrong the 07 R1 bike is fast but below 6k rpm it really feels appaling when compared to my 00 R1 that i am currently using.
This lack of low rev range torque on the 07 R1 has made me fall out of love with it but if having a flash tune done will provide it the same level of torque as my 00 R1 then i will keep it.

I am from the UK so its a UK spec bike and has a power commander 5 with a custom map created for it on a dyno.
Also has akropoivc exhaust and decat link pipe.

Alright guys sorry for the long delay. Bike is back up and running and were back to tuning! Here are some pics of my new fairing kit:

I tweaked a current map I was running for my ride this weekend. Getting back in the saddle is gonna take a little but ill post results and share.
