We all know that when you ride a newer r1, they don't necessarily feel fast. But yesterday against my buddies 06 gsxr 1000 with a slip on for power adders. I have a pc5 and slip ons for adders. We did 1st, and 2nd gear pulls. In first I would smoke him because the 09 r1 doesnt wheely every gear like the 04-08's. In 2nd, whoever got the jump would take the hit and then stop pulling. So they are basically even.

I know alot of people say the 09's are so slow, yadda yadda. But We really aren't. Although it does feel like we are when riding. Just figured i'd share.

you n' me both mate,.. 05 r6 was a blast... it also had that sketchy shake... i'm glad they managed to retain that on the new configuration in the latest R1..

one thing though, and maybe i'm just noticing now since i'm about to upgrade, but damn.. the suspension needs some work.. lol... its a freaking pogo stick out of the box... then again, i guess i like my chicken wings :)

They want a bike that feels fast and makes them excited when they're riding it, not when they look at time sheets afterwards.
I think the 09 still offers plenty of that rush, but yes the power comes on smoother. It doesn't feel like you're riding a big 600. The Fireblade is in a similar camp as the 09 with its enormous midrange. There is no massive build up to a top end hit. The Blade and R1 make nearly identical peak HP (well, the U.S. models seem to). MCUSA's liter track shootout saw the CBR take the best lap times overall for the test group. Even if you don't get quite the same acceleration sensation/thrill, you will certainly notice it as you approach the next corner :fact

i'm 344 kms into break in on my new 09 cadmium!

yes, this fvcking beast is f.A.S.T.!

feels a bit looser than my Pearl white, a bit less engine braking than
i expected... guess i' got a good one!! thank god!

there is just so much torque everywhere, you never really get that rush of
woooaahhh i'm flying now... its just smooth as a baby's bottom, you get on
it and it just shakes its fine arse there for yah... before you realize the damn popo
is chasing you down on their heli..!! hahhaha.. great stufF!

most definately nothing like the 07-08, brute force propelling you forward and around the bends with such force, yet so balanced its deceiving... i absolutely love it!

Even so it wasnt just Spies bike that was fast, the swan Yamaha's finished 1 and 2 in the last BSB race and at Misano the current WSBK Factory R1 was the second fastest at Monza with 328kph (205mph) just Behind Biaggis Aprilla that set the all time top speed record for a superbike 333kph (208mph) So there is a lot of potential in this engine :)

Also if you cant watch the first round of this years WSBK at phillip Island they were the only bikes Ive ever seen lifting the front wheel after going under the bridge at Phillip Island @ approximately 300kph!

Hopefully I can extract similar performance from mine, just got a head done for mine by Tim Radley :) Have raced it once since the rebuilding it and was keeping with S1000RR's down the main strait of Eastern Creek :) Even with the cam timing 7 degrees out! Standard Velocity stacks and ECU! cant wait to rectify the those 3 things and it should be an absolute monster! :)

i think

I had an 09 now have an 05(financial reasons) When riding alone the 09 feels boring. Its planted, power pulls bottom to the top, and does everything well(after minor tweaks, they all need tweaks). Then when you ride with your buddies you realize the benefit. In a staight line roll on its not overly impressive its not a drag bike wasnt designed to be a drag bike, first 3 gears your sitting on the tank trying to keep it down but no hard hit of power. But when you get into the turns it blows everyone else away. You can get on the power early, the chassis doesnt kick and scream like the older r1's, if it breaks loose its smooth and controlled. Very easy to ride fast because your not deceived by some powerband that hits. You can concentrate on riding. It feels like a leisurely ride at 100+, that what makes a bike good - easy to ride. Not everyone likes the way it looks, they dont like it when they first ride it because its different, BUT once you get to know it and how to ride it - very competitive. This 05 has that powerband that makes it feel faster, but I know its not I have passed them on my 09. And these were good riders.
If someone says its slow doesnt know the bike. They say "oh i rode a buddies for a few hundred miles" that dont count. It took me probably 2500 miles to get the hang of it. You just cant ride it like a normal 4 banger. Its hard to break that habit because thats what has been around forever.
I have been on the riding street since '98, worked in dealerships for year, rode just about everything under the sun and have had around 10 bikes and put lots of miles on them. The 09 R1 is the one bike that stands out in the crowd. Other bikes have one maybe two impressive features but not a complete package. I think the 09+ R1 is highly under rated. If this bike dynoed 10hp higher EVERYONE would have a different opinion. If everyone got to know it before they saw the dyno sheet they would guess they dyno sheet would be more impressive.

Well I've done a few thousand miles on one, and believe me when I say I REALLY wanted to like it but I couldn't find one thing apart from the noise.

It's wide, heavy, slow steering, vibey, flat, disconnected, hot and ugly. Sorry, that's my summary. I enjoyed riding it on track but never felt like I was truly in control of the rear, rather I had to place trust in it.

Needing to spend a couple of thousand miles on a bike to 'get used to it' just reeks of desperation to justify your own ride in my opinion. Apologies if that sounds harsh but I'm not alone in my opinion.

I'm glad it exists, really I am, we need diversity in motorcycling or else it does become stale, but to me, sadly the R1 lineage took a massive downturn when Yam bought this model out.

I love the way mine feels, Coming from an well prepped R6 to 09 R1 has been a big jump. With some simple suspension mods, I think my R1 would keep up with my R6 .

I have ridden a 07-08 r1 and like them, but the 09 to me feels a bit more stable under me mid turn...With stock suspension of course ;)

I think the comment of any sportbike are slow is retarded... all the way back the 900rr til now they are vicious. If my old bucket of ass hooptie scares the shit out of me.

All R1's are potent, and the 09+'s are very fast. On the the track and off. Look at Laverty, Melandri.

The main reason all the other bikes are getting worked on the top end by Biaggi' has a lot to do with the v4 motor being narrower and the narrower profile of the bike thus much better aero package.

If I had the dough Id have an 09+. I just look at ssPilots and it makes me envious:fact

I know what you mean. My 06 GSX-R 1000 actually made 2 rwhp less than my 04 R1.

There is a misconception that R1's aren't as fast as GSX-R 1000's in general. That is totally not true. I own both and the gixxer is 2 years newer than my R1, my R1 scares me much more than my gixxer does.

My favorite thing is that the R1 is more of a "scary fast" and it's more rewarding when I "master"(i'll never master it probably but you know what I mean) it in fast riding and twisties than my gixxer is. Maybe that's just a personal thing but I like actually having to "tame the beast" rather than riding something that's fast, but easy.

Don't get me wrong though, I LOVE my 06 gixxer 1000! It's a different animal though, its got loads of midrange which is awesome, and a great chassis to go with it.
