Hey guys I just bought a new set of wheels and now it's come time to buy new tires. So I pose this question. 180 or 190? and can you give me reason for your suggestion. Thanks

Like Kevin said. Also, if your more of a curve addict then the 180 is the way to go. If you like to stunt and pull wheelies stick with the 190.

i know that a lot of people aren't going to agree with me, but i prefer the 190. I had a 180/55 mounted for about 3000 miles. I loved the quick turn in and nimble feeling, but i felt that the rear end would slide around easier. Now, this could have been because it was a pirelli diablo (not corsa), but i feel more comfortable with my 190 pilot power. I also think it doesn't handle much worse at all, in fact it feels more solid once you are leaned over.

It's really personal preference. You have nothing to lose by trying the 180, in fact i highly suggest you do. I'm going with a 190/55 qualifier next time though :)

Where do you find the 190/55 Q? I have a 190/55 BT002 on there right now and like it.

Yeah, it's harder to get your knee down on a 190. I couldn't believe the difference when I switched to 180's.

The 180 or 190 stands for the widest part of the tire measured from side to side.
The 50 or 55 stands for the aspect ratio. The aspect ratio number represents height of the tires profile in as a percentage of the width. So if you have a 180/55, it would be measured as 180wide by 99 in height. And a 190/50 would be 190 wide and 95 in height. A 190/55 would be 190 wide and 104.5 in height.
A 190/60 would be 190 wide and 114 in height.

Well damn, now I'm torn between the two.
I just this month tryed out a 180 Pilot Power on the R1 for the first time.. My words cannot expess the positive difference in flickability that the change made.. It was very hard to beleive that it was that huge of a difference but it was.. Still over 30 days later its still very noticable..

The satisfaction that I felt with the change was something to the effect of what I would think adding a set of $3000 Carbon wheels would be in terms of handling..

Since this topic is up again, I just recently did a track day and I was looking at the way the tires wore through the day. I have a 190 on the rear which was abused all the way to the edge. My front on the other hand was just short of the edge. My question is do you get much more lean angle with a 180?

I think that a small bit of the great handling that you get from putting on a new 180 rear tire comes from just having a new tire that has a round profile and not square profile anymore. And some more of that good handling feeling might be from having less spinning weight. I would like to know the dif. between the 180's weight and the 190's weight just out of curiousity.

I guess satisfaction is associated with $ because in a blindfolded test most riders couldn't tell the difference in a set of wheels. Tires are much more likely to make a difference, however, new tires always feel much better, no matter what brand. I'm not saying that's all you're feeling but that is what often gets reported. --Jerry
