Ok so my buddy has a 05 r1 bone stock other than some sac levers and some upgraded steel brake lines... He has recently came into some money and want to build a 200 mph r1.....soooo where do we start I too him lets get a full titanium exhaust power commander velocity stacks and I left it at that I'm also thinking maybe a bore will be involved just looking for some advice I guess... Thanks in advance

It's gonna take a bit of modding. You can't bolt parts on and reach 200mph.

Your either gonna need some major head/motor work or a turbo.

Or gear it out something crazy and spray 6th with a big shot. Probably wont happen but a few times before the motor pops.

umm it shouldnt take that much work... ive hit 196 on my 03, and that was before the plus 2 sprocket... i would drop a few teeth in the rear and make sure he has a good jacket and helmet... and get a custom dyno tune not a generic map download

if at all possible, recommend that your buddy buy some brains.

He can put whatever sprocket he wants on that bike, with just an exhaust and a map he can twist the throttle until doomsday and he's not going to get to 196.

Maybe his speedo said 196 for a variety of reasons and errors, but it wasn't actual.

To get there on a non turbod motor will cost arountd 10-12k for an r1, first off get rid of the 05 motor and find an 07-08 motor. Start with the top end and you will essentially be building a superbike motor. Cryoed crank and rods, pistons, cams and so on, full superbike head work as well. We have a fellow here pushing around 190hp out of 07 motor on race fuel. Its an 07 motor in an 04 frame, and is a legit superbike... Pretty rediculous ram air system as well...my dream bike for 2014 MVO.

I'll try to find a few pics as well....

at those speeds, the amount of HP required to overcome aerodynamic forces starts to skyrocket. Drag goes up at the square of velocity, and the propulsive force required will go up at the cube of velocity. Say it takes 150 HP to go 185mph, to go 200mph it would take (in theory) (200/185)^3 x 150 = 190 HP. I doubt very seriously anybody is going to find 40HP from an exhaust and a tune up.

ok well we are going to approach it like this i think...his motor has like 30,000 miles on it so we are going to look into a bore first followed by the full titanium exhaust, velocity stacks, a racing ecm, power commander(or something similar), a pocket GPS unit, a sprocket change, carbon fiber plastics and a lot of stickers...lol jk on the last part...but my question right now can i believe these wesites like yoshi and graves and m4 and what not on their HP gain claims??? They seem a bit pepped up...anyway i told him lets get all this stuff installed excluding the bore and see what our benchmark is at and go from there

Where is that formula from btw and fiexxx your avatar is amazing and I agree when a bore is done head work will be done to make sense for the bore... I'm doing the research and finding that graves dynos show te most improvement.
