What do you guys think of my conversion? Everyone said it couldn't be done....well I am almost finished.

I started with my 2000 Euro R1, if you do a search under the name R1forlife you will see the old pictures of my bike. I tried to get access to my old screen name but couldn't, so made a new one.

I used the original frame and engine off the 2000 and fitted the 2004 swingarm, subframe, tailsection, and exhaust.

The only thing I need now are my intake tubes. As soon as they come in I can finish the fairing fitment.

I have to say it hasn't been easy. As soon I finish the fitment I will be tearing it all down and repowdercoating the frame matte black. I will be painting the fairings in the Raven paint scheme.

I will try to take some better photos and post them, I didn't have my good camera today.

Ok I will try to help anyone out that wants to do someting similar.

First I started with the swingarm fitment, things you have to do.....
1- take 4mm off the right side of the swingarm
2- have to take 4mm off the swingarm sleeve
3- you have to use the 04 swingarm bolt, which is larger than the 00-01 so you have to enlarge the hole in the frame to accommidate, off the top of my head I don't remember how much had to be taken off.
4- have to use the 00-01 dogbone with the 04-06 triange bracket.

The hard part is the fitment of the exhaust and shock. Would be easlier if you used an 04-06 shock but I already had an 00-01 ohlins so I fabricatied it to fit. The lower mount for the dogbone on the frame had to be moved and also the upper about 1 inch to the left to accommidate the exhaust.

So have you not ridden it at all, in its present condition? Do you have any theory as to the 04 swingarm being an upgrade over previous years? I ask because I have an 03 swingarm on my 00, and would go to 04 if it improves the suspension. Thanks for the details!:thumbup

As for the subframe that was another big step to over come.....I was getting frustrated because I usually buy all my parts on ebay and I had everything but on 04-06 seat which I needed in order to get the subframe fitment correct. I ended up making a jig to hold every thing in place so that I could get the allignment right. You have to use the following parts.....

1- 04-06 subframe
2- 04-06 undertail
3- 04-06 upper tail fairing
4- I used a stock exhaust for fitment and then changed it to the two brothers.

Once I get all that fitted then I fitted the exhaust y pipe to the 00-01 stock header. I will probably end up changing the y pipe since it has the cat in it and I dont need it for my engine.

Forget to mention the rear wheel info...

I am using OZ H2's that are ment for an 00-01 R1 so I ended up using the 04-06 axle and rear brake caliper and mount. I havent finished that part yet but the 00-01 rear rotor ill have to be milled, it looks like it will be about 5mm and the caliper mount will have to be shaved for bolt clearance, and you will need a 4mm axle spacer which I believe will end up going on the right side between the caliper bracket and wheel spacer.

No I am still fitting parts and then it will have to be completely tore down to send back off to the powdercoater. I have no idea if the swingarm will be an upgrade. It will be about another month before I get to ride it. I can definately tell you that the biggest upgrade you can do is go to a 180 in the rear and lighter wheels. The ohlins rear is amazing too, and I have complet race-tech springs and valves in the front forks. This bike transitions from one side to the other amazingly fast.

Well, I have 07 forks, calipers, rotors, triples and clip ons, 06 wheels and 03 swingarm. It transformed my bike from the tired stock 00 components. I am always looking to upgrade it further, so I value anything you find out after riding yours!

Nice job on the bike conversion. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Fikays bike is rockin' too. Would look awesome with matte black frame and white plastics. :yesnod
I actually want both! I really want the black frame and had it tore down halfway, but just couldn't bare to wait any longer, lol. Yeah, my all time fave paint is white with the red race stripe blocks! Thanks, Kirk!

Will try to get some higher res. pictures tonight.

How do you like those levers? Saw them on ebay and they are at least $40 less tha the pazzos. The price seems too close to pazzos unless they are really as good - so I was wondering what you thought.

Everyone seems to want to know why.....well I like to be different....and also to see if it could be done. I first owned that bike in 2001, I sold it in 2005 and bought it back from the same guy for next to nothing. I only have about 1000 bucks in parts and I will have another 500 bucks by the time I powdercoat it and paint it again, so for me it was much cheaper that just buying an 04.

The tank was a copy that I created from the company Dynamite, I think they are out of the UK and they charge 895.00 plus you send them back your own tank.....no way I was paying that much.

Thanx for all the compliments.....The bike is still in my shop when I get it bac from the powdercoater and put back together without the fairings I will take some pics outside in the light. Should be about two more weeks, my air tubes come in tomorrow so I can finish fitting the fairings this weekend.
