First post here, hopefully in the right spot.

So I recently bought a 2009 r1 that doesn’t run. Got a good deal on it. Been workin on bikes a while now so I’ve done all the basics, fresh gas, cleaned fuel filter, checked fuel pressure, checked coils, new plugs, fresh oil, air filter, new starter. The previous owner hacked up the wiring harness so I’ve been going through that and I think I have everything fixed that I can see he messed up. Now for the problem. Bike will crank grea, but not start. Bike has a ton of codes and won’t let me clear em. So I was going through diag mode and saw that for d:09 I have no board voltage. So I checked that I’m getting 12v to the ecu and a good ground. And I have both. But still saying no voltage. It also won’t let me test injectors or coils through diag mode.

Codes present are 11, 15, 21, 22, 23, 30, 43, 46, 59, 60

That's a lot of codes to digest. If it was me, I'd clear them in case some of them are older.

When you are in diagnostic mode, go to 62 and it will show you a number (this is the total number of codes). Toggle the kill switch from off to on and it should show 0 if cleared. From there I'd try starting it again and seeing what codes are present.

This won't fix your problem but at least it might help you narrow it down. As it is, you've got TPS issues, coolant sensor issues, air temperature sensor issues, atmosphere pressure sensor issues etc. It could be that most of these are resolved now that you've fixed the harness.

If he butchered the wiring harness, make sure he didn't mess with the kickstand switch and tip over sensor. They won't throw a code but they will prevent the bike from starting.

Once you do that, report back with which codes are still present.

Also, you can download the shop manual from this forum. It will show you all of the codes and what they mean.

So I’ve read through all the codes and been through the manual for hours. I forgot to add that it won’t let me clear codes, and I believe it’s because I’m not getting signal from the ecu/board. That’s where I’m mainly stumped. I attribute the not being able to test coils/injectors, no board voltage shown, and not clearing codes to the ecu not working properly

^all of this is good advice.

Repairing a harness is tedious work. I suggest repairing it on the bench. I could repair the harness for you if you'd like.

Another option is to source another harness.

Download the manual, look at the codes, test the offending sensors. Replace as necessary.

If you are in Texas, you could drop it off at my place and I could sort it out for you. I wouldn't rake you over the coals or nothin'.

Could you take a look at my harness I’m having the same issues

I’ve been looking at some harnesses. Probably gonna pull this one out and check it thoroughly. Also tip over, kickstand, and neutral are all working properly. I’m in Houston, so if you had an 09-11 I’d say lemme throw my ecu in your bike and see if it’ll run it. Wouldn’t wanna buy an ecu to test and possibly fry it

It’s just weird I’m getting 12v and ground into the ecu but internally it’s not reading any voltage. Any ideas of where to go? I saw one guy saying he had the same problem but when he hit his ignition it gave it voltage. So imma look at that too

I'm around, but, I'm 5 hours out from there, and I've got a kid on the way in a few weeks, so, there will be the hassle with that for at least a couple years, the first year is the most time intensive though.

My oldest can wipe their own butt now, and the middle kid eats carrots and stuff now, so, that's good.

In any case, we could try to set something up with a video call assuming you have a multimeter, a 9v, some jumpers and some time.

Do you have the manual?
