If you only use it for street, that would be a waste of money.

 

Total and complete waste of money for the street. Unless you get a YEC ecu (also a waste for the street) but then you could regain speed and ODO :lol

Just because I know very little of aftermarket dash functionality...what does it give you (other than support for some YEC ECU functions like speedo/odo as mentioned above)?

Is it mostly logging, built in lap timers, support for diagnostic devices, and whatnot?

 

Depends on which dash you go with. The AIM if you have the GPS module will map tracks, built in lap timer. Ability to log all sorts of data (speed, acceleration (lat and long), suspension (if you have the sensors), etc.

 

You can go with the HM if you want a REAL plug & play and all the capabilities of the stock cluster such as, error codes, etc.

 

The unit I ordered up for my track whore.....

Starlane DaVinci. Shop around and you should be able to get it for under $1k. For what it does, the price isn't as bad as it seems especially if you consider that it is a plug and play.

 

ill deff be interested in seeing how you like this once its installed.

 

If you don't need or want data logging you can go with the AIM Strada for about $1300. It's completely plug and play and looks the part. Who's to say it's a waste of money for the street? That's up to you to decide. There's a lot of things we don't need for the street or track but do it simply because we want it and it provides a sense of satisfaction. Get what you want and don't listen to anyone else. :fact

Motec is one of the best out there bar none, but you can get very carried away with their goodies
AIM is badass but pretty spendy.
Translogic is one of the best valued.

 

You better be making the fiddy track only now you put a dash on that :lol

 

I love a digital dash because the stock OEM cluster FCKING SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That was the Strada unit, didn't like it so I got rid of it, I got a better unit coming :sneaky and no, its not another AIM :fact

 

what didn't you like? I have the pista so it may not pertain to me :lol

 

The Pista is pretty much the same as the Strada, Pista has more data logging capabilities, more options, I found something I like better, with pretty much the same capabilities as the Pista, plus a few more.

 

So, Your telling me that when you buy a AIM dash they do the wiring specific for ur vehicle? :dundun:

Thanks everyone for the selections. I mainly just want it because I am tired of looking at the boring dash on my 04. I don't really care if I need it or not, I want it. Also, I like the gear indicator, the battery voltage indicator and some of the other functions on it. I'll look into the other one's you guys mentioned and see what I can find.

Are there any out there that bolt right up to where the original was or do I have to make a new bracket?

 

I know the AIM mounts directly to the oem stay. I would assume HM and Translogic do likewise but can't confirm.

Your link doesn't say what model or year it's for. They are specific to years. I called AIM and asked if a dash for '06 would work with '09 and was told it could but you would have to send it in to AIM to have the pins reconfigured and a new harness made. In the end the new dash which was on WERA forum for $800 would have cost the same as buying a new dash for an '09. They are specific to model and year although it may work for several different years. I'd get the part/serial number and ask the techs at AIM Sports first.
