Last week I had just completed my track bodywork for my 09 R1 in time for the R1-Forum.com Memorial Track Weekend.

I didn't realize that I needed to mount and reconnect the air temperature sensor that mounts in the stock front fairing left inlet, until someone PM'd me about the part!

I had a Translogic MD3-12 Micro Dash installed before removing the OEM fairings so I never saw a fault code that would have shown on the stock dash.

I rode all weekend and didn't think I had a problem, but then I only had about 200 or so miles on the bike before bringing it to the track. So what happens if you leave this part disconnected?

i will ask my father, hes a life long mechanic.. will post..

*okay, yes you are correct redgecko, it should not have much of an adverse effect, considering you only rode 200 miles or so..

it will affect your fuel mapping, in some situations, dependent of ambient temperature you will run a little rich..
if prolonged of course it would cause unused fuel to mix in with oil etc, or something like that.. he was a little busy
so i didnt clarify..

yes you de require it functional specially if your tracking her as youre always in high rpm.. proper fuel mapping & management is essential..

but dont worry, not a chance you did any damage.. hell i broke in my 09 with a faulty pcv & 3/4 system.. all goood... 160rwhp now :thumbup

it will send false readings to your ecu, & in turn your pcv if you're running one, which i assume you are..

Air Temp Sensor

Here's one for you. I crashed my R1 while racing last year and the air temperature sensor has been throwing a code ever since (all other codes cleared OK except this one). I plan on replacing the old air temp sensor with a new one. Anyone have experience with this?

P.S. I was winning when I crashed on lap 4 :thumbup.

Also, check the wires for breaks down to the ECU.
