Help - no coolant in tank

So i have just picked up an 07 r1 with 12k on the clock completely stock.I was changing the front indicators today when i came across my coolant tank. To my surprise it was completely empty! I opened the radiator cap and i could see some liquid about an inch away from the cap. My partner called the local bike store here in japan and was advised that it was absolutely normal in the winter and that the tank would return to its levels when the weather warms up. Is this true? I would also imagine the shop I bought it from here in Japan would have thoroughly checked the bike before releasing it. Japan has a reputation for that. I’m still a little concerned.

way too low. fill radiator to the top, and fill reservoir to the bottom line.

some people think all motorcycles are air cooled. unless it has a leak.

after you fill and run it, you watch for coolant loss, and especially for head gasket leak because it was run with low coolant level.

Add coolant (yamacool) to the radiator then reinstall cap. Add coolant to the plastic bottle to between the lower and upper lines.
while you are waiting to ride your bike again, look around the engine, hoses, head, exhaust pipes for some whitish chalky residue where coolant has leaked/dripped out and dried up. Also, when you start your bike in the future, each and every time, pay attention to the way it smells. Coolant when leaking out has a sweet odor to it

no matter what the shop person told you, your condition is not normal. The bike does not manufacture coolant based upon season of the year. Once it is gone, it’s gone

Cheers guys appreciate the help.

I dont see a motive for the other shops to lie.

Wellmy partner just called the shop i picked the bike up from and they confirmed they checked it and there was no leak at the time.

They asked to top it if i wanted to but apart from that this is all ‘normal’.

Ive also been told that if i top it up now that it'll over flood when the weather picks up.

Im going to order some yamalube coolant of amazon but the mixed opinions im getting over this is stressfully confusing.

i can just top it right, doesnt need a complete flush does it? Considering the machine is 14years old.

I don't understand how the bike shop though that was normal and that when the weather warms up the fuild would all of a sudden appear . Sure you would get fuild in your over flow but then you would have less in your radiator and nothing to replace it with. Or maybe they were referring to the expansion of the fuild molecules, because all molecules expanded in hotter temperatures. But no where to that degree of size or volume differences. Or maybe that shop is full of poop ! Also check your oil for a white milky look or bubbles, that would mean water in your oil!
