I have a two position lowering link and I admit I am not as smart as I should be but am smart enough to ask before F'in up sometimes.
I currently have my R1 on race stands with the rear wheel off.
First: if I remove the stock link will it fall off the race stands?
Next: how do I get the swing arm to move up so I can get the lowering link in place of the stock link?
PArdon me for being an idiot that wants to do my own wrenching, thanks in advance for any input.

i ususally hang my bike to the beams of my garage with ratchet straps; put the bike in the service stands first, than starp it to the beam, and tighten the starps just before it lifts from the stand, now you should be able to remove the stand and the bike hand, if you needed it to;i let it hand, and with the rear stand, i use it to lift or lower the back end in order to line up the suspension link, this of course may require some adjustment of the ratchets in order to find a suitable height, just whenever you do ajust them, most specially if you're lowering it, make sure the stand is in position; you dodn't want the strap to run and drop the bike on the floor :(

Again, this is just the way i do mine, i am sure that everyone has their own way of doing it; i'll be watching this post, maybe i can learn an easier and faster way to do it ;)

It Would Be A Good Idea To Keep A Front Stand On As Well If You Got It; The Bike Will Tend To Tip W/out It; Even With It, Try To Be Gentle, It Can Easily Fall Off The Front Stand Without The Stability Of The Rear Once Its Hanging .
Try To Get Help Froma Friend If Possible To Spot You And Keep An Eye On The Front End While You Work The Rear ;)

I usually use an engine picker and hang it from the sub frame. take off your tail section so you dont scratch the plastic. raise it so the rear just takes the pressure off the suspension. remove the 2 bolts install the front bolt first then lower the rear until the hole in the rear lines up. Thats all there is to it.

Oh yea, i hang it off the subframe too, except i do not remove the tail fairing, you can hang it off the trunk compartment ;)

thanks for the advice on lowering link guys

Thank U I will hang it from the rafters!

I take the faring off, leave it on the kickstand and put a jack in the middle of the bike. Works very good and goes quick.

lowering link story

I used my race stands and in addition took a bike hold down strap over the garage rafters...worked great until the bike fell on me with the rear wheel off.
The factory Chinese stiching on the hook for the hold down strap came unravelled and my R1 fell on me and tipped over in my garage.
I was like a one legged man in an ass kicking contest getting everything upright.
Anyway for the future I will never trust only one strap even though it was rated for 1200 lbs.
I could use the advice again of you guys. After I installed the 6" extensions, a lowering block and stapped the front end, I only got first gear and neutral,
What do you guys think happened, how come I only got first and neutral?

well, have you checked if the rear part of the shift rod is touching the swingarm?
I know that the first time i put a lowering link on my bike, the end of the shift rod where it connects to the actual shifter pedal, was touchinh the black plastic piece that wraps around the front of the swing arm "chain guide" i think its called; there is a what i think a 10mm bolt securing it to the swingarm that was keeping the bike from shifting to any other gears :( , eveytime i tryed shifting , it would hit that bolt and NOT allow it to change gears.
Hopefully, this info may be of some help...

Thanks for the info Rob6

Thanks guy!
I die ground down to nothing the 10mm bolt that holds the plastic chain guide and everything is right. By die grinding the bolt I was able to keep the plastic guard secured in place without having to take the bolt out completely. Again Rob thanks for helpin a stretched brother out!
