As some of you may know, my previous bike was totaled thanks to a deer.. and poor decisions on my behalf for trying to take the back roads to the gym late at night.
Long story short, I got a nice check for $3,000ish over what I paid for the 2005 zx10r, due to the upgrades I purchased the bike with, and parts I installed afterwards. Welp, I took the money down to Atlantic City and more than doubled the $3,000 dollars..:fire I've been eyeing up the 2014' waiting for it to come around the corner but I haven't still heard much about it since it's so new. I've also been eyeing up the 04-05 R1's and the 07-08 R1's.:gengar:

Option Uno - Put $4,000-$5,000 down on a new 2014 R1 ( I've never financed anything before, I've purchased all used motor vehicles. Which is also why I was contemplating, and patiently waiting for this 2014 R1. To help build my credit, but I've recently moved into an Apartment with my girlfriend, and I don't feel that it's right to buy a brand new toy without a garage to keep it crispy in. I don't think a tight cover in my driveway is the proper route.. :sissy:

Option Dos - Hopefully make a deal with this guy this week, or the following. Get a great deal on a 2007 R1, since bikes seem to be selling cheap cause a lot of people don't ride in this weather! Not have to worry about payments, and I think storing it in my driveway with an expensive cover should be fine.

Question: Is there a Raven Model for the 2007?
:Is there an alternative side exciting exhaust, similar to the Graves on the Crossplane?

And lastly tell me what ya guys think

Compared to my 2005 ZX10-R do you guys think this bike will handle better? And do the 2007 models still lack that mid-range and than kinda take off?

No Raven in the 07 models, if you get it, keep the undertail exhaust, looks better IMO, and yes, it will handle better than your ZX, I had an 04 ZX before the 07 R1, not as much power as the Kawi but has plenty of grunt, mostly on the top end thou..

I have 2 '05 R1's, one for the streets, and one for track, and I love the ride on them both. I have the power up kit on the track bike with -1 on the front +2 on the rear sprocket, and love the power band. I installed the smog block off plates, velocity stacks, and a full graves exhaust, and I pull on my buddies '12 R1 all day long. The only good thing about the '07 would be the slipper clutch compared to the '05, and with mine not having it doesn't really bother me. The best feeling is knowing I don't have to make a payment to anyone at the beginning of every month.

2014 is same bike since 2009, with TC... its a great bike... i love my 09
if i were buying brand new right now i would probably wait to see what
the 2015 R1 is... 'cause its sure to be an upgraded package.. c'mon i can hope! :hammer:

between the 07/08 and my own R1... i'm happier with the Xplane myself and its fully modded
so it aint going nowhere :D

07 R1 is faster then the 09 R1.
http://rideapart.com/2009/04/2009-yamaha-r1-slower-than-2007-model/

I don't feel any lag in the midrange with my stock bike

The 14R1 does't have any changes compared to older model's
like what's been said above.

I would say buy a 09 for the looks and upgrades compared to the 07.
or buy the fastest R1 the 07 :tocoo:

Tell ya what, buy the 2014 and I'll trade ya my 07 for it, straight up ;)

Seriously, either bike will be great fun, it pretty much comes down to whether you want to incur the debt or not.

If you want to help build your credit, finance the 2014, if you want to own the bike outright, buy the 07.

lmao! this guyyy! Nah I put too much money into stuff. my gti just sits.. with $5,000 into it over about 2 years, needs some body work. It has some tasty mods, I might flash the ecu? and powercommander, levers. should be good :) my credit is still kinda low, but I always use it, and pay it off in full right away. it's buildinggg

A little off topic, but curious as to what you more than doubled your money on in Atlantic city. Was it poker, black jack, craps, slots, or something else? Do tell.:dollar

Sure. I don't like bragging, but since I totaled my bike and flattened a deer without a scratch on me, I felt pretty lucky. I waited for a check, it was a little short (still over what I paid for the bike) they didn't quote me for a few small things, and quoted me for a slip on Akrapovic$600 something compared to the full $1,799
I booked 2 nights at Tropicana for $39 for monday and tuesday, I sat down and pulled out a few thousand, told the pit boss if I bet the table maximum on black for 2 hands and win $1,000 throw me a room he said "are you serious?" I said on my mother! I shook his hand, and they paid me $1,000 just off those 2 hands.

Long story short, I had the whole week comped to me in a suite on the 19th floor south tower with an Ocean View. I kept playing blackjack and just winning, I just had some feelings I would win a hand so I'd push more money up, and.. yeah I kept ****ing winning.:lhumper: I really busted my ass playing. I went to 2 different casino's as well. I won some money around Midnight at the Borgota, about $1,500 and by 8:30am I had to walk home about 2 miles lol. I seriously couldn't even get a cab.. -___- but overall I still walked away extremely up! and I left 2 days early from what they comped me cause i wasn't gonna throw the money I just won all week back in! I played the vip section $1,000 dollar hands and went back and forth in there for a bit, but didn't really lose or win..

(and for the record, I gamble often, just never won more than about $1,500 in one sit cause I'm content with a few hundred. I play a lot of poker, and blackjack, and bet the outside on roulette) I won about $500 off black betting on it twice. came out 2 times :) lol LONGG WEEK!

But in regards to the question…

I’d go either 2009 or if you “need” to have the TC, a 2012.

My buddy has an 08 that I’ve ridden quite a bit while my 09 has been in the shop and hands down, I prefer my 09. Hell, he prefers my 09. Haha.

#41 ·
He really prefers you're 09? and I like how the 05 and 07 look best. I like the new ones, but they looked like they gained weight, I think they could sharpen it about, and still keep they vicious looking nose! They headlights are incredible, the whole design on the nose on the 09^ is sick I think. look's like a phantom :epimp

I would say hold off until you get a place with a garage...or live near a storage unit. new or used a sportbike is still a major target for theives. and bikes can disappear in 30 seconds.

#14 ·
Yea just read through the whole original post…

Having an “expensive cover” over your bike in the driveway won’t do jack sh!t to prevent theft. (bluntly put)

At the least, I would have a ground anchor set in concrete with a very hefty chain/lock setup.

Well I've had a RF600R, Superhawk1000, Ninja zx9R, Ninja ZX10r, and none have been stolen, and none have been stored other than in my driveway with a nice cover. I live in a small neighborhood and I'm close friends with the thieves ;)

I wouldn't go out and finance a 2014 just to build credit and with a new apartment. Each year you mentioned has its pros and cons so I guess it should come down to finances and what you're comfortable with. I'm not sure if you're a sound guy but if you love the sound of a motor you will be in love with a piped xplane. I seriously get excited to start up the xplane any chance I can. Take my advice and don't go back to the casino thinking you can double up again

Lol thanks pops, but I'll manage! I totally hear ya, and nah I don't plan on doubling up, but gambling is my Niche. next time I go i'll letcha guys know how I make out. I'll prob bring $500. Play blackjack with $300, and poker with $200 if I can't get anything going on bj. Nothing big. I totally understand.. I'm not stupid.. that's why I left before sat and sunday night in a ****ing suite! I had to get the hell outta there! lol :hellobye

2006 raven, yes
2007 raven, no, had charcoal/silver option instead for extra $$
2008 raven yes
:hellobye

Get a cheap storage unit you can put your bike in Op. one day some guy will see you putting the tarp or follow you and see you leave it outside. A few days later. poof one less bike for you and another "my bike was stolen from my apartment complex last night" thread for us.

I love my 07, hassle free and insurance hell of allot cheaper then a 2014

No, it’s not “all about power when it’s all said and done”

I second what Papawle said by saying yes, there are fellas up here riding 600’s that will rape you and your R1 on the track. But honestly, the point you’re trying to present is 1. Not very credible and 2. Pretty irrelevant

#29 ·
So back to the point, if it’s THAT close of a “which is faster” race being determined by the rider(not driver), then why would he base his whole purchase off of the minute aspect of “which is faster”…? :2bitchsla

my brain hurts trying to read each one of your posts..:shake

Well I don't think NOT getting a bike because I don't have proper storage is the right way about it, and I live in a Duplex, it's a half of a house, and my neighbors are cool as shit, he used to ride. So I think my Cover Method will do just fine! I still need to ride! I'm going crazy over here.. I drink and gamble too much now lol. I used to wake up early and just cruise around, 287 north, open her up, hit some twisties! Now i'm a bum... So yeah to wrap this up a bit.. I think I'm gonna go with the 07, Finacially I think it's a smarter move, because I'm not looking for something long term here, and if I can get this deal, I can prob put around 5,000 miles on it and still make money off it! But if I lost a few bucks I'd still be fine with that.

I am a huge "about sound guy" btw. My ninja sounded like a lighter more vicious V-Twin, and I also owned a V-Twin it was a 2000 Honda Superhawk, and it felt pretty rugged, I liked my 94zx9r better than it, because the powerband was nice on it! & much more comfortable(very glad I got ridda the hawk for the ninja!)

I would consider an 09, but I'd probably want to finance that, and if I'm gonna finance I think a 2015 would be way better.. I don't really wanna spend more than $6,000 on anything used or on a down payment. I could comfortably afford an 09-14..(unless I lost everything on bj) jokes people...

So I'm gonna call the dealership tomorrow and bust their balls, see if they have anything nice, and I'm gonna try calling this private-owner to see if we can make a deal! Since no one will let me on their frigen CROSSPLANE! So until I buy one who knows.. lol, Thinking about it is getting me excited but I think I'm gonna feel out the 07, even though it won't sound like this...(video below) It's still is eye candy, and I fall more and more in love everytime I look at his sale article!
Thanks so much for everyone's input, I appreciate all the kind words :)
