First stretched & chrome and now fur . . . has rorlow lost it :hammer:

If you look beneath the fur it really is a worthy bike, congrats on July BOTM mate, and a special thanks for helping so many members with bits from the UK and tech advise, that's what the forum is about :bow

The Furry Fury

Hope fully some of you may enjoy a giggle at my bike.

It?s a 2003 5PW model, I bought it as the second owner in ?05 and it was completely standard, with just over 7k miles on it.
It?s been constantly evolving ever since, and it always will be. It now has 35k+ smiles on it and it?s been one hell of an experience with it.

Okay, so I?ll start with the most obvious, the fur. I first did it to my previous bike, a Sukuzi TL1000S, years ago when I did a local charity Easter Egg run to a kids hospice just to give them something to laugh at and be interested in. It went down pretty well with them and the other riders so I left it on and when I got my R1 everyone asked when I was going to fur that. So I did and it?s ?stuck? ever since, getting changed once a year for a fresh coat. Always tiger print. As long as it provokes a reaction, good or bad, I?m happy and hopefully a few people will look long enough to see past it and notice the bike underneath.

I am a bike mechanic and my main interest is understandably engines and making them a little better. So that?s where the majority of my effort and concentration has gone into with this bike. Some of you may have noticed a thread I started on this forum back in ?06 when I first started work on the motor and it?s been growing ever since. I wouldn?t recommend even attempting to read it through now, it?s quite large, and most of the contributors, myself included have learnt tons during the passing years so most of the early information is largely defunct. The regulars are very much still working on their bikes along with me, and they do their best to answer questions etc. I'm massively proud of the thread and all who contribute on it. Great bunch.

My primary goal was to see how much I could get out of the engine with my own efforts and as small a budget as possible, not wanting to throw expensive parts like cams, pistons, rods etc. at it besides the obvious exhaust/fuel adjustment mods that are arguably must-haves. Up until fairly recently that?s largely the way the motor work has gone but now I?ve reached the limit of my skills/knowledge so it?s had some very professional input as far as headwork is concerned and I?m about to start testing an inlet camshaft which could well lead to other ?bolt on? mods. There?s also further engineering work to be carried out on the motor too.

I also understand the benefit of making a bike as practically light as possible so I have always had an eye on what could be done in that area in the hope to improve on-the-road motor performance and handling.

My work, contacts and involvement with this very forum have enabled me to source parts at prices and availability that I would never had had the opportunity without. Also advice and opinions that have proved completely invaluable. For that I thank everyone involved. I literally couldn?t have got this far without you and I hope that what I continue to do with it remains the same.

Wow. Hard to find the right words to say.

Conveying emotions in text is always a hard thing to do. Trying to choose words that we see so often these days that they lose their significance is almost impossible...

I'm truly touched and honoured that not only Rorlow has chosen me to win this BOTM but the support of so many forum members influenced him. It's been fantastic to see the comments of of those that I've got to know on here, but I didn't expect my bike to be so well received amongst the guys who've taken the time to comment even though they don't know me or haven't previously spoken to me. That really says a lot to me and I genuinely didn't expect so many people to take my bike seriously.

It's come a long way, and it's still got a long way to go before I consider it close to the mental image I have of it completed but that's all part of owning it for me. I'm a bike mechanic by trade and get almost as much pleasure from working on it as riding it. Even though I work on bikes every day, there's no way mine would be like it is if it wasn't for this place and it's members. Not only the help, advice and inspiration, but lots of the parts on the bike have come through generous guys who were kind enough to help me out. From electrical help, air filter foam, through to the radiator, rare carbon parts and even down to nuts. I've persisted with tricky parts/ideas because of their willing to send them my way and it just makes the bike more special to me.

Sorry if this sounds like an Oscar acceptance speech but I can't express my gratitude for this place and how well both me and my bike have been received on it. I owe a special thank you to the regulars on my Winter Headwork Project thread that really kickstarted this whole thing and to Tim Radley for his patience, generosity and above all, skill with the main part of the bike after watching my feeble attempts at what he does so well. Thanks guys, it's been a pleasure to do what I can for you lot in return ;)

So, who's got next month's stretched, chrome and furry one up their sleeve? :sneaky

A very nice lookin fury bike...Done a great job & congratz... Anyways, how do you wash your bike? with cat shampoo? :sing::bow
Thanks guys! I did try car shampoos once without wax in it, but to be honest, it did nothing. It's easier just to change it once a year ;)
Its gracias...:butt
I knew that... Just checkin' you were awake D.

Thanks very much! :) That reminds me of a funny story...

Ages ago I had a Valter Moto oil filler cap and while out riding it sheared and obviously was venting oil. I pulled up at the side of the road and an old guy pulled up in his car behind to see if he could help. He got out, walked up to the side of the bike, looked at it in silence for a few seconds and then just calmly said "I don't think it's house trained yet". It was how calm and seriously he said it. Awesome.

As for the fleas, I think they get off around a ton ;)
