Lowering R1... effects?

I am thinking about selling my 05 R1 to my brother who is shorter than I... he is about 5-4 I think. So he will be on his toes. I told him to lower it. I don't have the problem of standing on my toes but he will. Will lowering it to suit his height, effect anything on the R1?

Thanks in advance...
Joe

If you lower the suspension in the back a click or two, he will be able to reach but it will make the rear end softer, depending on his weight it should be fine if he isnt taking it to a track.

I think he's talking about lowering the ride height, not making the suspension softer so he squishes it down more. Which yes....will effect how the bike handles (that would be the nature of suspension). Lowering the bike by lowering links and raising the forks through the triples will effect it's handling. That is a fact. Now, how much it effects it is up for some debate. I woudlnt' take the bike to the track with it lowered, and I'd be careful on some twsities on teh road, but if he's just gonna put around town, it won't do much. It definatly will not be the same, but it's still very ridable. If he can, he might look at shaving the seat some. You can loose and inch of that foam and all is well.

Google the specs on the bikes...seat height on every bike will be different, and i'm willing to bet that yes the 09 R6 is higher than the 00 R1. You'll notice if the front is lowered by looking at the forks...are they in line with the top of the triple or sticking up through them? The rear, you'd have to see if it has a lowering link....but I'm doubting that your bike is.

So, you waited 2 minutes before starting the new thread ...patience is a virtue.
Ya, I was just going to say that. Seriously man, if someone doesn't respond to your post in under 5 min, the world will not end.

my old bike (05 r6) was lowered by PO.
man, that thing was a bitch to turn and totally sucked as a bike.
once i put it back to stock height, adjusted the PSI in tires, and adjusted the suspension, wow, world of difference.
in short, it WILL affect it, and not in a good way.
if all he does is ride around town, nothing too extreme, he will be fine, but its no fun
plus, it scraped all over the place
