Hey guys. After seeing the 06/07 tail on a fellow 1's bike, I absolutely loved it and wanted to do it as well. I will be posting up my progress over the next few weeks with a deadline of mid may for a trip to THE DRAGON! I am graduating this spring with my degree in engineering so this trip is my graduation present to my broke self:rock and hopefully school is forgiving this last month (doubt it) so I can actually ride this bike.

I am in the process of finishing up buying 06/07 R6 pieces including; sub-frame, battery tray, integrated LED rear light, tail cowl sections.

Hope you guys enjoy.

Same feelings here. I appreciate the engineering effort in this project, but the 02/03's tail is one of the best looking rear tails ever. Especially with the integrated turn signals. The wider passenger seat also came in handy.

Will be a very interesting bike when you finish though, definitely one of a kind! Good luck!

ya after i kicked off the sub-frame with a swift judo kick i wanted to see what it would look like as a "bobber". I wouldn't mind getting swing arm extensions and a another chain to switch things up for a day or two next summer lol. I just finished ordering all the parts. I really didn't know how much people charge for used stuff. I will try and be descriptive with my process and make a how to as I go. I know what I will do already but I'm sure there will be snags.

Step 1: Unbolt all plastics, wiring, and remove sub-frame and battery tray until it looks like this.

Step 2: Parts to order:(make sure whichever make model you choose all the parts you replace come from that specific matching year(s) model. Sounds obvious but those kids over on the r6 forum forget that R6s and R6r parts do not coincide when they list them.
1. Battery tray
2. Sub-frame (straight hopefully)
3. Rear Seat cowl
4. Front Seat
5. Brake Light (i went with an integrated one to keep it extra clean)
6. Tail Fairing Cowls (top & bottom)

Parts should be in later this week for the most part so hopefully I can get my studying done for the most part and get cracking on this.

All the extra wiring is from my motorcycle amp/speaker set up from unicycle (someone pm'ed asking. I have two 4" pyle waterproof marine speakers mounted up front on the sides of the tach powered by a 150w bike amp that is the size of 2 PCIII roughly. Good video that inspired me was "zx10 speakers" on youtube. It is extremely loud as well. 80 mph on highway with helmet visor down and its fine. I'll do a video once the wires are run but the youtube vid shows it quite well.

Like the guy in the vid, I wired the remote signal connection to the brake light so the amp will only be on when your ignition is on so all you do is stick your phone/mp3 player in its holder and press play and disturb the peace!

MONDAY 12 APRIL 2010 THE DRAGON WILL BE OPEN AT 8 AM.

Ok gang great news.....it is official well all but the lawyer to say ok. TDOT will build a fence at the state line with a gate. They will open the Dragon for use from 8am until 8pm from the NC side only. There is still no way to get past the slide so you will have to turn around after the Dragon and return. Folks we need to thanks for this are and they are not in order: US Congressmen Heath Schuler, NC Sen John Snow, NC Rep Roger West, TN Sen Doug Overbey, TN Commissioner Gerald Nicely, TN Rep McCord, all the folks at TDOT, the Graham County Commissioners for all the EMS support, THP, NCHP NC and TN Governor's staff and most importantly all the wonderful motorcycle and sport car groups and people who took the time to write, email, fax and call letting these folks know how much you love our area.

Folks looks like great weather on Monday so come visit and ride the Dragon once again.

anything beats buffalo ny. check it out on google maps, nothing but 90 degree city block turns haha. 14260. Hopefully there are other roads down there that are just as fun. thanks for the heads up though, I didn't know that rock slide was going to be a huge project that will take forever most likely.

quick update:

tail cowls came in today so I put everything together to see how it all worked and fit. Everything lined up well but no hardware was sent with the fairings or subframe which I had expected for some reason.:no

I bought a bundle of bike screws and plastic rivets from a dealer that was fairly priced to clip everything together. Hopefully tomorrow the subframe will get to have its debut in fitting onto the chassis, sure hope it works.

Does anyone know where I can get 1/4 turn allen head bolts for cheap? I was on cheapcycleparts.com but the price for each one I need added up is a bit ridiculous.

Hopefully ill have some progress pictures tomorrow of the tail tentatively mounted.

quick update:

saturday involved a chain/sprocket conversion on an sv650 so my subframe mounting got postponed.

sunday i was able to do some cutting on the subframe. I will say that these two, frame and subframe, could not be any different. I only had about an hour to work to I was only able to get the fitting about 1/2 way done with the angle grinder.

For those of you who are going to be doing this as well, I do recommend this tool for use. I think a hack saw and file will work better. It will be much more work but the result will be perfect. I think after another big chunk comes off either side I will be resorting to hand tools, due to how thin the metal is.

I may be able to work on it a bit more this weekend but it does not look promising. 2 weeks school will be done with and I can go live in the garage again.

I'll post pictures of progress when I get back in and try to give some tips through my hardships.:banghead:
