Quick Shifter

I was thinking about installing a quick shift kit on my 08 R1... Pro's and Con's please? Also i hear what i think are quick shift kits on bikes at the track, they seem to all come with a backfire type sound when they shift. Are these bikes with quick shift kits or air shifters? What are the differences between the two and which one would you guys recommend?

I've had a Dynojet QS which killed the fuel for a sec, which was a bit rough and did a poor job in the higher gears. As I changed gears the bike would wheelie and upset the chassis. And it needed to be connected to the PCIII.

I just changed to a Translogic QS which kills the spark softly in the lower gears and quickly in the higher gears, and it's smooth as silk. There's no unsettling at all...just a tiny "bip" noise and barely a change in the drive.

My TL QS is an older model, the latest version is better again. But from all I've read, and been told by mates who own one...the HM QS is the daddy. It works the same way as the TL, it's a standalone unit, it gets plugged into the coils, and it's the best on the market. As used by many of the worlds racing teams.

I am using a Cordona QS and a PCIII. Shifts are smooth and do not make a back fire sound... I cant see any cons really to a QS. Race bike and street bikes have them and always a plus.

The HM is really smooth. I got to use it for the first time on the track at Road America on Monday. Coming out of corners on the gas hard it pulls soooo smoooooth and fast you practically jump away from other bikes. HM kills the spark and not the fuel so there is no backfire type sound. It's definately one of the most noticable mods I've done so far - suspension, reflash and HM qs ftw.:flex:

I've used them all and to date the translogic and the bazzaz were the smoothest i've seen. Translogic is priced a bit far out now though. Once you run a quickshifter though, you'll never run without one. It's addicting like reverse shifting.

I have found with the Bazzaz you have to flog the bike to get smooth shifts, otherwise it can be a bit abrupt and very clunky. Can't be good for the tranny

Sounds like your setting is too short then. Change the kill times. It should be as smooth as butter no matter when you do it, but i wouldn't recommend doing it when cruising. All quickshifters are designed to be used while accelerating mostly. That's when they will be the smoothest.

I'm using the stock setting that was supplied by Bazzaz. I haven't even plugged it into the laptop to check it. Rain is going to be here another few days so won't be able to try it out.

Hi there!

I"m using SP Quickshifter, bought from this guy on ebay. I send it him a personal mesage on ebay, and get very cool price for the complete system. The stuff arrived at time (very quick), and the sistem works perfectly. NO backfire, very smooth shifting (the time switch you can addopt), and again very cool price. I pay 172 Brittish pound for it, + postage (cheap). And the most important for me, you don"t need any system ( PC III or Bazazz) to run it. It"s also quite easy to install it- I do it myself. Any further question, just ask.

Here s link from ebay guy:

I installed HM today (got it from UK) in my 09 R1 as in the pictures so please tell me if it's connected as it should be? It's my first quickshifter ever :sneaky and user manual is not so clear... I have PC V and flashed ECU but didn't enable quickshifter option in them, just plug the HM.

I left the plug on the left hand side, below the airbox (sitting on a bike) and mount the ground eye to the left tank mounting bracket. Set it to C (road shift patter, right?), kill time to 70 and sensitivity to 65 (OEM settings were 60 and 50). I have Gilles rearsets and it's hard to switch the gear.. What's wrong? Where is top and where is bottom of it - maybe I set C and it's E? :bash

I'm not sure it works OK...

Few more questions, just to be sure my installation is fine:

I found such photo on the ZX14 forum website for HM PLUS installation procedure:

1. When I sit on a bike #1 coil plugs should be on the far left side of the engine top or on the right? Does it matter? Should I attach the coil loom "right to left" or "left to right"?

2: The cable coming out from the shift sensor shoud be on top or bottom of it when installed and then which position is called C and E?

3. What's the best kill time and sensitivity number for 2009 R1 or what's your setting?

Thanks for your help!

I got the answer from HM so maybe someone can use it too as HM user manual is unclear and I didn't find any "directional" sticker on a loom or the sensor itself:

Hi,

To answer your questions

1, It matters not which way you install the loom.

2, Again, it matters not and C and E stand for Compression and Extension so its dependant on which way your bike shifts up. Try one if you are unsure and if this does not work switch it to the other.

3, This is up to the user and each individual bike. Leave the settings as standard and try them. You may like it more or less sensitive and the "cut" may or may not need to be shortened. This is totally down to how you ride.
Will give it a try tomorrow, for now I set the sensivity to 90% and kill time to 65ms but it's hard to trigger the shift sometimes. It shows "SHIFT" on LCD sometimes, sometimes only "C" blinks one or two times during the static test and gear display is blank and not showing any number..

I have shift sensor mounted the same way as the guy below but I'm using road gear pattern/not the GP/ so I assume I have to turn my sensor up-down on the shift rod, right?

Anyone?

Bazzaz QS here, I've ridden on the street with it once, and hated it. On the track It is the only thing I will use :fact

Bazzaz can be used at any RPM where as the PC needs to be above 8K to work right. I've used both and LOVE the bazzaz much more

HM QuickShifter for 2012 R1

Greetings,

Any news for the HM plus QS? I'm about to order one for my bike, but I'm confused after reading this thread:

- Is there any problems as mentioned such as difficulty on shifting??

- What is the best settings for 2012 R1?

- I have Akra EVO KIT system. Will my bike pop Flames during shifts like S1000rr?Âż I love the flames to pop while using QS! As long as I know killing ignition does that..

I'll be glad if you can clarify these for me so I can place my order ;) Thanks
