Tell me one reason I should get an R1 instead of a Panigale V2

Gonna have to decide pretty soon.

That V2 will probably be good straight out the box.
I got a lot on my R1, so not a fair comparison, but if I was going to buy something now, it would be something like the Duke S.
That V2 is probably easier to ride, you can chip them with a little stick for the exhaust.
Plus the abs, you can't still turn off, and it is basic compared to some stuff around now, i don't use it but it would be nice to have the ability to turn it off.
I am going to have a go on a SP in March next year, and I reckon it will be shocking, it has six years of development on my 15, and but even the new R1 is not up to the S model.
That V2 be a great bike, also it don't have belts for the cams no more, and the servicing schedules ain't that bad at all.
It is all personal preference, but no reason from me [emoji16][emoji106]

I really hate the look of naked bikes! Plus they suck at anything over 90 mph, no wind protection. But, thanks for the reply.

I put 13,000 miles on my Harley in one year, I ride year-round as long as there isn’t any snow. I need to ride my bike everyday to make sure I’m still alive.

The V2 was the first bike that got me interested in a sport bike, based on its looks primarily. Got an FZ1 this summer and I do like the feel o the in-line 4. At this point in my life, it’s hard to go back to Harleys, but on the other hand they have there place, and I’ll keep them around.

The purpose is I like acceleration and torque, I’m not interested in top speed cause I rarely light it up over 150 on the highway for ant extended amount of time. So m, the Torque of the V2 is appealing. I’m not a track guy but have seriously thinking of giving it a try, but that’s not the primary reason I want either one.

I to be honest the V2 is a head turner, the R1 is also a head turner but not as much. I’ve heard them compared to a Corvette and a Ferrari. The Corvette is a fast beautiful car, but everyone is going to be looking at the Ferrari

check the manual for the ducati on what needs to be done at what milage. been a while since i worked on them but i thought something like every third service was retarded. some of the newer ones i have heard guys quoted like 2500 for some of the bigger services. it probably is a better setup bike out of the box though so i guess thats the trade off

valve inspection interval ducati: 15,000 miles, R1: 27,000miles
check secondary air reeds and replace if necessary ducati: 15,000 miles, R1: none
Reset the service indication through the DDS 2.0: ducati: every 7500 miles !! R1: none ! (wholly fk!!)
Read the error memory with DDS 2.0 and check of software version update on control units: ducati: every 7500 miles !!

NO THANKS !! i'm probably wrong; if you buy one and fear the dealer, you will forever drive exotic italian ducati with "error" on display all the time !! only dealer know how to "reset" and reset and reset

the italians make beautiful wonderful products, but the 30,000 mile maintenance for lamborghini costs $10,000 and needs only the best mechanics to do it. good luck, enjoy (being irritated everytime you ride ducati (or aprilia)).

Hey bud, I own an 2010 1198 and 2009 R1 and I honestly prefer the R1 for commuting. I would recommend test riding the Duc before you buy because it has a diff vibration. My 1198 is awesome but I know its kick my ass with the engine vibration. Sit on both and see which seating position you also prefer. Just my $0.02!

I have both, it's more of a mood for me. I like having options though. I haven't ridden the V2 but I have owned the 1198 and 1199, and currently have a diavel Carbon edition, and looking at purchasing the V4 here soon, but old faithful is always a blast. My 2020 R1 is awesome to ride does it turn heads like my other bikes yeah. For the price you are going to get more bang for your buck with the R1, more aftermarket support as well, the Ducatis are more limited on aftermarket parts, they have gotten better over the years but just not there yet. Thats my personal opinion I don't know if it helped you in your search.

Just my 2 cents, I’ve worked on a few of the new v2 now and I was not impressed with them much, I didn’t push them hard but hard enough to tell they weren’t for me, the brakes were good, the suspension was nice but the motor seemed underpowered and vague to me compared to the new r1 🤷‍♂️ Our shop is split between guys who want one and guys who said the same as me.

Depending on what you want to do with it.

R1 is better for daily than a panigale V2/V4 I know some friends has both and even he says R1 is better allrounder.

How easy is it to get the Duc serviced? I only trusted 1 place for my Duc service and it was 2.5 hours away & I actually passed 2 other Duc dealers to get there.

Once the head mechanic retired and the second one quit, their quality of service dropped. I ended up selling the Duc anyway so I wasn’t too upset. My point is, find a quality shop with great people, which is hard to do with some brands…

[emoji1787][emoji23],
The dad is quick, he made bikes look like they had reverse on a trackday, yes he's professional rider and a great one at that [emoji1787].
I would say my bike is nothing an oem R1, but why spend all that money.
I have seen 15 year old kids in the fast class moto 3 riders, made a thou look stupid. I would not ride the R1 with standard brakes or suspension and that that excuse for a steering damper.
Entirely your choice.
Yes you might lose on top speed, but I think you will make it up in the corners plus braking plus it is probably lighter.
I have seen a 600 French 600 champion look like thous as they were nothing.[emoji106]
