I have an 08 stock and had my lights and dash backlight go out after bike wash or riding in the rain, I checked the harness as suggested by someone on a you tube video and found the plastic around the harness brown from overheating and eventually melting. It seems that there is a common problem with the harness connection my question is has anyone go back to the dealership or to Yamaha to see if this has been recalled? I found recalls in UK and India for this exact same issue so why wouldn't it be recalled in North America. I guess if everyone fixes the problem on their own Yamaha will never do anything about it.

Link to these UK and India Recalls?!?! I have an 08 and don't think Yamaha is worried about recalling North American 08's at this point, but if I can do the recall on my own id like to

Lighting harness question

So, I'm trying to dress up a project bike. I took off the headlight wiring harness and there were a few wires in question. The only ones I can't seem to figure out are two blue with red strip wires that were cut and left free by the previous owner. Aren't these turn signal wires? There were no front signals on the bike when I bought it so I can't really test them right now. Anyone know where I can find a lighting harness color chart, I don't have the manual and I already looked online. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm having the same issue with my headlights not turning on. I'm not sure if the relays are bad or wiring. I remember one day hearing a click click click noise up in the front of the bike and then it went away. I didn't think anything of it at the time. Lights were still working then. Does anyone know what the noise was from, the on/off relay or the dimmer relay? Please help. Thank you.

I looked at all the plugs and wires on the left hand upper fairing and they are not burnt/corroded. Do you have a picture of the specific white plug you are referring to? How many prong? So are you saying that its not on/off relay or the dimmer relay. Anything more info would greatly be appreciated.

I have found the problem. It was the power wire that the owner before me must have bypassed from the 8 or 10 pin rectangle white/clear plug that came loose. Thank you Zac Agee for all your help. It is greatly appreciated.

03 R6 Headlight Not Turning

I had the same problem a while ago. There is a wire that runs from the cpu. the cpu sends a signall to the relay when the ignition is turned the cpu actually turns the lights on. In my case my uncle (skilled mechanic) checked all the wires and relays all were good, when he tested the wire from the cpu no signall. He bypassed the cpu and rewired it to the battery so when the ignition is on so are the lights, it's been problem free since. I was a little concerned that it might be an indication of an inpending cpu failure, but it's been about two months and no other problems. Hope this helps.

The same happened to me and was at night and far from home! :22: I was able to make it alive home without no lights. It was until the next day I started looking into the wires and relays, I had some new relays laying in the garage; they were all good. sticking my tester to any wire connector with 12+ and groung signal. I got to the YELLOW/WHITE(stripe) on the low beam relay and put ground to it and beams lighted up!:tocoo: I track that wire to it ends and leads to end on the ecu as well. And maybe that answer someones questions. As " Up North" user had same connection for over a year I will leave it as is and see what comes next.
