When Riding....Bugs?

I took a short trip from Sacramento-to-Middletown today...I'm sure someone is familiar w/ the area, but I am curious:

When goin' out on a ride have you guys had to deal w/ a lot of bug remains on your shield, screen and front of your bike?

I didn't realize how bad it is now that it's pretty warm in this area.

After a brief ride, I suppose dead bugs are to be expected when riding past fields, vineyards and the lake. :(

yep, here in good old OZ we have billions of the critters....

Generally in the afternoon is the worst time for the buggers...

They taste like **** if you haven't noticed yet...

the big green ones are.......LOL

Bugs suck....

I have gone through a bottle of window cleaning in the last couple of months...

I've had instances when riding for about 5 mins or so and I need to stop at a gas station and clean my visor. There's a season here in Phoenix, well west of Phoenix that is that I like to call "Butterfly Season" Just as it starts to get warm for summer, there are literally about 2 billion butterflies........ Those stupid yellow and white ones that are all powdery. They sure can make a mess............

You should see the bugs here! Must be on steroids or something! Especially the dragoflys, those things make a loud ass ping in your helmet when they hit. I don't know how those Hardley riders can stand to ride without helmets!

did a 400 mile trip today, Saturday, ...well, ...I guess I'll post pictures tomorrow before I clean it so you can see and say what you want.

...I must have wiped out 50 species of bugs on the canyons. I had to wash my visor quite a bit and my perforated jacket now has bug guts embeded on the perforation. The white parts of the jacket turned red and yellow with streaks of shiny goo:ugh

yes. I guesss, they are part of the price to pay for breaking through the sound barrier:lol

...pictures of bug guts tomorrow.

Buddy, come up and ride with me between Chico and Thunderhill... you will get more but guts on you than you can believe!

The grossest bug I have ever had, though, was Streets of Willow this week... left a huge bloody smear from the niddle of my iridium RX7-RR shield, all the way across the top of the Hirada replica paint... yechh!

i hit a minefield of midges near a loch 2 days ago, took me to see through visor after that, i carry a visor cleaner under seat for such instances !!, last year i got a bee down the back of my leathers, felt something moving about on my back and went to itch, got stung, you have never seen someone get to a stop, and pull 1pc, leathers off so fast, it should be an olympic sport !!!, but **** happens i guess, left one hell of a welt after !!

I seem to get a lot on the gas tank, I don't know if it's because of my windshield, they seem to hit it really hard right above the tank bra and explode! Anybody else have this problem?
I soak a towel and lay it on the area where the bugs are, and let it loosen up the bugs before I remove them, no scratching that way....

If you guys think you have bugs then I invite you all down here
to South Central Florida. I will not ride at dusk and just after
dark. The bugs come out by the bazillions. When I ride to work
it's still dark outside in the mornings and my visor is peppered
with bug guts along with the windscreen. On top of all that we
are just starting the Love Bug Season. These things are unreal.
We will have them for about a month. They have no natural
enemies and have a acid in them that will pit your paint if you
don't get them off soon. In the cage it's useless to try use your
windshield wiper and pump. It just turns into a thick paste. I see
so many oncoming cars and semi trucks completly covered in
them. They cover my riding jacket with guts everywhere. I have
heard rumors the state introduced them to control the skeeters,
but it has backfired big time. The love bugs fly two together and
mate while flying. They come out once the sun warms things up.
I mean you can be driving down the road and it sounds like it's
raining from the bugs smashing the windshield. They plug up
your radiator and will stop you dead in your tracks. They come
out in late April and May then come back for a short time in
September. I'm just glad they don't fly at night with all the other
bugs. They are only a daytime problem and a pain in the ass.
And the bad thing about it, we are just starting with them for
this year. :ugh

i was out on my katana 600 back when i was in cali. i was going about 100mph (yeah i know i was pushing it :lol ) and i took a junebug in the front/side of the neck. i thought someone shot me. that crap hurt...alot.

could be worse though...i got a buddy i work with in dover that got a bee stuck in his helmet between his sunglasses and his face...man, his face was puffy for a week. then 2 weeks later he was riding in shorts and one flew up his shorts and stung him on the inner thigh. man, i think i woulda cried at that one...:lol

hmmm Sacramento, eh? I live south of that...and EVERYwhere i ride is nothing but bugs.... and you are correct... the fields... the streams... all the greenery..... stuck on my helmet... my bike...and my jacket... making me look all gross...

..and the worst thing? you stop at the gas station and clean your visor all off.... and don't even get a mile down the road -- and then next bug SMACK in the freaking middle of the visor -- EVERY time:mad: :2bitchsla

and then every place you go inside... you look like scum because of the bug guts all over your jacket....:no

.... and I have had a bee hit me under my helmet and above my jacket... DAMN when they smash into you... the stinger goes right through their butt and into you.... uggg!!! It hurt like HELL!! but... I was riding along with some Harley... and didn't want to stop and cry...so I just toughed it up for about 5 miles till we went different ways.... by that time it just BURNED and SWELLED!!

I had a wasp fly up under my shield once going down I-75 at about eighty miles an hour. The shield was cracked just enough for ventilation so that the bastard slipped right in. I'm sure passing traffic got a good laugh out of watching me jumping around on the side of the interstate trying to get my lid off.

Just thinking about those Love Bugs that mate while in flight. Can you imagine gettn it on when you get nailed by a 120mph red and white missle. Sheesh. Yeah, bugs suck on new leather but I guess they were here long before I had the one. Worst thing is when you're riding and you see their gutts all over your visor and your start to focus on them. Not a good idea to do in a hairpin.
