Hi I’m in the market for my first liter bike and have my mind set on the R1. Nobody in my state (Texas) has a R1. I’ve called dealers out of state and found a couple that had the black one which I was interested in (not too crazy about the blue). I also currently have a deposit on a 2022 60th anniversary but I’m kinda impatient and have been itching to ride. The dealer told me they should get it in December but from other countless dealers I’ve spoke to some said they won’t get it until spring or summer or sometime after New Years because Yamaha hasn’t been good lately with delivery on time.
Yesterday I went to a local dealer just to check out bikes and they had a new 2021 R1M which looked soooo nice, I fell in love with the aesthetics of it. The OTD price they gave me was right under $30k which is pretty steep so I called around to other dealers and was able to get a deal for $28k OTD. (2022 60th anniversary was close to $21k OTD).
I will strictly be using the bike for joy rides around town, maybe 1 day hit a track but probably not for a long time or possibly ever. So should I get the R1M or is it wayyyy too overkill? or should I wait for the 2022 or keep looking for a base R1? I don’t mind spending the extra money to get a R1M now and I also have a full exhaust waiting to be installed as well as the BT Tuner and other small mods.
