I dont feel like searching...

Now that the weather is getting nice and I'm sure guys are putting miles on the 07... for everyone that got rid of their 04-06 for the 07, are you happy with your decision?

....said the guy with an outdated bike. No offense, but the 04-06 owners need to get the "f" over it. The R1 has changed, and for the better. Realize that this board is going to fill up with 07 and 08 owners over the next few years. You guys have had the latest and greatest R1's since late 2003. The 07 is a better bike, and that is a :fact, just because you don't have one doesn't mean everyone else shouldn't get one. This whole rationalizing that the 04-06's are powerful enough and good enough and everyone should just be happy with what they have is horsesh!t. The people with the biggest complaints about the 07's on this board are all 04-06 owners, and 99% of them have never ridden an 07. For some reason people like to make a big fuss about little problems on whatever the new bike is so they can make it look bad so they can feel better about their purchase or their outdated bike. I have an 07, and two of my friends own 07's as well, and we all think they are the best sportbike's any of us have ridden. (yes we are biased since we own them and haven't ridden all the other bikes) I don't think I've heard of one 07 owner on this board that didn't like the 07 more than their previous year R1. Yes it has a lag at 2nd gear at 5500rpm's, but that is a small annoying glitch on an otherwise breathtaking machine.

I'm sorry if I'm out of line or pissed anyone off, but this whole 07 bashing to make people's penis feel bigger has just gotten old.

Peace out,
and much respect.:thumbup

I jsut bought my black '06 Last May. Trust me, if the wife would've let me, I would've gotten the '07 also. Am I trying to "Keep up with the Jones'?" No, I just like 'new'. To be honest, I love my bike, I love the '07's also. I'm going to try and get the either the '08 ZX-10R or the R1, we'll see.

I could have purchased and 07 but I went with an 05 instead this year.. I liked them both but with the money I saved I already have my 05 setup with the mods I wanted and still didn't pay as much as getting a new one..

They are both great bikes and I don't regret not getting the 07 because some people think the 05's are outdated.. lol Thats just stupid... You can't go wrong with either choice IMO..

#7 ·
outdated, as in no longer up to date, as in not the newest generation, which your bike is not. Ya that's stupid all right.

I have an 06 and love it. Are the 07's better; I'm sure. Yamaha spent boat loads to update it, why wouldn't it be better. The real question is : are most of us good enough riders to really unleash the potential in a modern literbike? Probably not. There are a few of you out there and I sing your praises, but most of us aren't that good.

The tracks i ride I wouldnt benefit from having any more horsepower. I already have too much with the 06. Keep it in 3rd gear pretty much the whole time. 07 is pretty bad ass though. Thinking about scaling down to a 600 for track duties though. The R6 is hella nice for track.

Love my '06....'07 to me is a more refined version of '06. I have spoken to people that have had '04-'06 R1s that have the '07. They all report it is a better bike. None of them say it is a must have upgrade unless you have and R1 that is '03 or older.

All have said there is more power and a slight handling difference. The biggest change being more power down low.

We all love R1s on this site, so if someone has an '04 or '05 or '06, they should not be taken dump on and neither should someone with '07 be sh!t on just because.

I think it just comes down to you. If you have less to spend then get an '06, it is slightly less bike but if you can ride you will have no problem making up the small difference. I you have the money to get the '07....get it! One guy I know sold his '04 and is singing praises of the '07. Another baptised (totalled), his '06 and got the '07, he likes it but says that if he had not killed his '06 he would not have bought an '07.

I think you need to re-read your own first thread. Kind of harsh.
I know it was harsh, I did say I was sorry for anyone that I pissed off. But I still wanted to say it.

"Yes it has a lag at 2nd gear at 5500rpm's, but that is a small annoying glitch on an otherwise breathtaking machine."

duud, are you for real, does your mommy know you are awake? only a lag in second gear in the RPM where you always drive, and that is not a problem?

the reverse could be said that you bought the latest and greatest to feel better than and the more secure stayed or bought the 04/06 because they don't care

and before you spiut off about how i am jealous i could not afford the 2007 you bought, shut F up. i can buy what ever i wnat the 2007 was not it

No it's not, and I'm not sure if she does. I think she's sleeping.

#29 ·
I totally agree, but what new bike comes with zero problems? The lag is my only problem, and I've never experienced it in normal riding conditions.

#30 ·
The fact of the matter is the 07 is a better bike, that is a :fact
There are a couple of questions you need to ask yourself before you decide to trade up from the 04-06 models

1. Can i use the current bike to its full potential?

2. Can i Afford to trade up?

3. Would i be able to notice a definite difference between the 2 models?

4. Would I do just as well with modding the current model and setting it up for my riding style?

5. Am i the next Rossi?

I asked myself those same questions and decided my 04 was ok for now..........:yesnod:lol

this arguement will go on for long time. hell there are still arguements over 98- 00-02-04..now to 07. new bikes get more of newest stuff. there suppose to be lighter more powerful. if you just bought 04-06..then dont worry.. it will make you happy. yes 07 is an improvement...but not enuff to go out and sell ur bike and get new one... unless u really feel like it. hell there are great bikes.. quit arguing and go out and ride and enjoy them.

In all honesty, i cant even come close to using all the 02 R1 has, it still scares the SHIAT outta me.... I do think for the most part the new models have been a step forward, but am i faster on them , for me the answer is NO, do i like the new technology and get caught up in having the newest, bestest thing out there......the answer is a Big YES....Lets face it, the factories hype every new model as being the be all end all of motorcycles. Its been like that for years, and will continue. I finally found out that i just cant keep trading year after year, especially for something thats not going to benefit me that much........:fact

Well having read through this i would like to add in my side, I paid the same amount for my new 06 when i could of waited an extra 3 - 4 months and had an 07 for no extra money! now what makes someone say no to an 07 and yes to a 06.... well the wait for one, come on 4 months!!! PFFFT i could be riding for an extra 4 months... but no it was the style of the 07, not saying its crap, just saying its not for me, now there is obviously going to be a few improvements on the 07, i can live with that, i got what i was wanting for a lil bit too much! but i got it anyway, each to their own and hell i would of gladly taken the 07 if i couldn't have got a new 06!
Ultimately as stated by many others, you cant go wrong with either! :)
Peace out!

Im pretty sure the 07 is a better bike... shi@t... I was gonna pick one up... had my money down on one at the dealer and all. But the reasons I went w/ an 06 was.... the price I got it for was INSANE... I previously owned an 06 and I loved the bike.... and the whole 2nd gear lag had me a little leary... especially since I live in NYC aka TRAFFIC CENTRAL. But... still love the 07... im pretty sure an 08 will become a part of my fleet :D

In closing.... LET JUST ALL BE SAFE OUT THERE GUYS... NO MATTER WHAT BIKE YOU RIDE

Ok, let me put my two cents in. I use my 04 to ride my Wife, Its more comfortable to her, and i ride my 07 solo. I love my 04, but its not as cutting edge in the handling/suspension dept as the 07. I would still be happy with just the 04. But i cant deny the better package my 07 offers.

#48 ·
I just got used to my 06 I couldn't even imagine trading up now. After only 13,000 miles I feel like it is part of me all the little quirks and I just got the suspension dialed in where I like it. Nothing against the 07 but I don't want to adjust to a different bike, I wouldn't even want a different 04-06 bike.

well i have a friend who has a 05 and 07 he likes them both but often likes to trade and ride my 03, he says he likes my 03 and hes looking for one. with that said its all preference it really doesnt matter what you have as long as you ride it and enjoy it .
because your 03 has a lot power down low.....and its more useful and fun if ride at the street....thats the fact....
thats why i sell my 05 R1 two days ago...:cryin

but im gonna miss my 05 R1....:nopity:

to each his own... if you need to keep up with the Jones...you shouldv'e bought the GSXR... adjustable fuel maps and all. Of course that will be outdated in 8 months. R1 owners make a comprimise in purchasing based on more than performance. Yes the 07 is newer and has some features that the previous gens haven't. Yes there are at least three guys with broken toes due to the 07's foot pegs, and a ton of people complaining about the hole in the fuel map. But its the latest and greatest from Yamaha so enjoy. I own four bikes, my oldest (and favorite bike ever) being a 83 RZ350 that routinely smokes liter bikes in the twisties. At some mature point you realize that you can't keep up with the jones, so you get the one that is best for you for the long run.
In 8 months Riley42 will be arguing that the 07 is better than 08 as his bike will be outdated, and old- just like this argument

I just want to say. "Thank you for new technology" Yamaha. :bow

Because if it wasn't for the latest and greatest and all that hype to go with it...then a guy like me couldn't come in quietly and get a great deal on last years "obsolete" model. Even better...add in buying right at the end of the season. Winter is starting, the new bikes are coming in, dealer needs to make room on the showroom floor for the sleds...

The 07's look awesome! But I went with a 06 at the end of October last year because I liked the unique 50th scheme and the discount to move it. 07 or 06, doesn't matter to me...either one is 3x faster than I really need it to be while trying to stay within the speed limits on the highway.

Just like the new Grizzly 700 with fuel injection. Great machine! But I've been making it a go with a carberated 4-stroke for the past 11 years. I scooped up that 06 660 Grizzly in October just like my bike. It's brand new "obsolete", but it sure plowed the driveway great this winter and saved me some money for mods on the bike and wheeler.

So I say...keeping buying the hot new stuff. Keep driving the technology! Keep Yamaha producing more and more. A big thanks to everyone who decided to hold out for an 07 Grizzly or R1!:thumbup

Above all, enjoy your Yamahas :rock

...smart man.:stpd: I still like the Raven...the '07s are sick........quit bitchin', it's depressing. :cryin :cryin :cryin :butt

Obviously the 07 is a better bike. I don't think anyone is arguing that point.
If the 06 and 07 were the same price everyone would get the 07 without batting an eye. But the real question is is the 07 worth a couple grand more than the 06? That's what I am dying to know! Preferably from someone who has had both, not just someone saying "mine's better"
