I would try to disconnect the battery and see if that helps. Let it dry out. Never wash it again or run it on the rear stands. If that fails back to the dealer

I've washed my R1 several times and nothing wrong has happened. In fact, the day I hauled it back home in the bed of my pickup it was storming. Never had an issue.

Lol yeah I'm with Hooli on this one...it was pouring on the way back from PA with my bike in the bed of my truck and I even hit it with the pressure washer (at a distance) at work to knock the dust off of it zero issues...I also run it on the stand to clean and live chain and to cycle thru gears after every oil change and zero issues

You guys need to own a Ducati. You will give up the garden hose and pressure washers pretty quick. But hey it's your bike. Wash away.

And actually I do own a Duc. :lol The Multistrada gets washed and cleaned just like the R1 (I don't pressure wash, I use the hose, a bucketful of Meguire's Gold, a hand mitt sponge & good old elbow grease). Rinse, wash, chamois dry, detail mist and re-lube the chain before a ride to dry out anything I couldn't reach. :scoots:

I'm with superfly. I never use the hose. I do a wipe down after every ride and it never gets dirty. When I sold my R6 it looked brand new, and it was a 10 year old bike.

I'm guessing running it on the stand confused the computer. I know there has to be away around it, It would do the same thing on the dyno. If I was you I would just use it as an excuse to re-flash.

 

You guys are hilarious. I doubt it was the washing that caused the problem, more likely to be running it in gear on the stands - I think that confused the electronics.

I'm taking it in to Mach 1 on Friday but just hoping somebody else may have solved this issue and/or there was a quick fix.

You are correct, the new R1 ECU, along with many other new Yam ECUs has a very irritating trouble code system. We can clear them and presumably the dealer can as well. They are not like the old systems where the bike would effectively clear itself upon resolution of the trigger.

 

lol I doubt a pressure washer from 15 ft would do any harm...I'm also a professional detailer, cleaning vehicles is kinda my thing

Problem solved - by the good folks at Mach 1 - who went out of their way to get me on the road for the long weekend!!

It was as I suspected, running it through the gears on axle stands confused the sensors. The ECU needed to be reset.

 

Common problem, happens to a lot of people. Probably just didn't take it for a long enough run as it will normally clear.

 

Nice they fixed it for you...but I did the same and no issues so I'm curious

i took it out for a 10-15 mile ride on a mix of freeway and local roads - and it didn't reset.

 

I did the same on the M and she cleared within a mile or 2 in a residential area, 15-20 mph tops. Might be something with the 17's.

 

It may be something specific to the '17's? I did run it up through the gears into 6th but I'm also curious as to how they manage to run them on the dyno'?

 

I wonder if it's resettable via the diagnostic mode (page 8-52 of the service manual).

I bought an OBD code reader and Yamaha lead when my 17 MT10-SP did the exact same.

Cleared the fault and regained access to the dash, suspension settings etc.

 

He means the codes needed to be cleared. You can clear them with the flashtune software or an obd code reader and the adapter for obd to yamaha

 

My current issue too when i ran the bike on a stand. Now i cant start the bike. The gas tank doesnt even prime. The dash shows “hi” for temp and both warning light, red and yellow, are on. Maintenance light is on also. Dont know what to do. Have i damaged the ecu?

 

It doesn't usually do all that from the stands so it may be the work you did on it but a code reader and the adapter and you can clear the codes. This running it on the stand thing never ends I've seen this post a thousand times. What was even the purpose of running it ont he stand?

 

I guess I got lucky on my 05 R6 cause I usually let the engine run in first when I lube the chain, Never had an issue. But I haven't done it that way on my R1 cause I started just spraying and spinning the wheel a little lol

I wish my bike would say "HI" on the temp when I first start it every time lol.

 

05 doesn't have abs or traction control so it couldn't care less if you run it on the stands
