I was having some issues with FI fuel hose being kinked and needed some help asap. BSR hooked a fellow R1 member up with this link to the FZ-1 site and I will be doing this mod tonight. This looks legit, easy, cheap and better for performance/maintenance etc.

Again, props to BSR for showing this to me. Thought I was doomed.

This may be true, but after several times of lifting the tank up it began to cause the plastic lined fuel line to stretch/kink if I too hastily pulled the tank up or put it down. This is exactly what happened and the damage of the line was not visible. Now there is no need to worry about it.
peace of mind

For cali models, you can free up some more space by getting rid of the charcoal canister. The fuel line has a nice u bend that helps lessen the 'kinking' that might occur. :dunno

Don't think its sticky worthy though. :thumbup

mine isnt a cali model. the line wasnt visibly kinked but if you felt it you def could tell. blowing air through both the stock and the homemade hoses showed how restricted that old one was:lol im not saying it sticky worthy. im just saying it helped me in a tight spot and saved me 40 some bucks:thumbup

I unknowingly kinked my line after installing block off plates and an air filter. After riding around and feeling my bike fall on its face (no '09 jokes please, haha), I realized something was wrong. I propped open the tank to trouble shoot, and saw the plastic/rubber fuel line kinked. And as we know it likes to hold its shape. I tried bending it back and have been riding around since. The bike feels fine, but I'm definitely going to do this mod to make sure there isn't even a small unseen kink somewhere. Thanks!

did this tonight on my 04.. The bike randomly developed a terrible lean idle (16.5:1) and way lean from 4k-7k @ 2 & 5% throttle. Same map as 14.7 idle, 13.5 cruise.. Same air, same everything.. just randomly went lean and stayed there - only at idle and 4-7k

Replaced the line on the supply and return hoses.. Fixed the issue instantly.

did this thing yesterday after i bought the parts, so i don't have to worry about it anymore:)

So yesterday after attempting to teach my friend how to ride(he ended up stalling 4 times in a row and we quit there), my bike randomly started to stall. It would idle fine when I turned it on, but when I would downshift and let the rpms drop, it would randomly stall out. It ended up doing that for about 20 minutes, randomly. I let it sit for an hour, took it out again, and it did the same thing for the first 5min, then was fine the rest of the ride...

After some light reading last night, the only thing I could come up with was maybe a kinked line, am I diagnosing this correctly?

I just did this mod this morning was having some bogging issues and problems getting it to power up.

And to my surprise I had a nasty kink that makes me wonder how the hell it was getting any fuel at all. You have to pull back the outer sheath to be able to see it otherwise would never have been able to tell.
One other symptom I have since realized but didn't put two and two together before was when I went to start the bike I had to hold down the starter for what seemed like much too long would never turn over right away now it fires up instantly.

What a difference for smoother power delivery I can't even believe how bad it was before now that I know what it should feel like ( this bike is new to me and only been riding it for 2 weeks )

Anyway everyone should pull back the sheathing and take a look even if it "looks ok"

I just used some thicker stronger 5/16 and clamps but am thinking I would like to make something a little slimmer since the thick lines are harder to route and have the tank sit nicely.

Going to piece together some SS braided lines and possibly hard elbows to make it look even better someone must have done this before ?

i used actual fuel injection clamps, smaller and tighter seal. i made a loop with the hose. it fits really nice and you can lift the tank as high as you want and the coil just uncoils itself then lays back down when you lower the tank. thought i had a pic somewhere but ill be damned if i can find it
