R1, vs R6 ????

gday all. Have a question.
A friend of mine is looking into getting an R6, (2004) and inevitably, we got to talking about speed, power, 1/4 mile times etc.
Now I know that an R1 isnt the easiest to get moving from a stop, compared to smaller bikes etc, and it made me wonder how that affects quarter mile times.

I have a 2001 R1, with full exhaust from headers right back, (exup removed) and rejetted to suit, standard gearing.
how would this go against a 2004 R6, with no mods other than a micron pipe.

Ive looked up specs and stats for either bike, but they differ depending on where you look.

So my question(s) are as follows.
with the above bikes, what times would you expect to see out of each in a 1/4 mile drag

what kind of trap speed on a 1/4 mile would you expect to see out of each,

what top speed would you expect to see out of each,

and which would you rather have and why?

thanks in advance for replies!! :)

you should post this in the drag race section or try the search function. But in short, your R1 in stock form would destroy the r6 in slightly modded form. There are guys that get great 1/4 mile times with 600's but not an R6. Too many variable for exact times and speed depending on modds and lauch ability but in short: 10's with your R1 and 12's with the R6. Top speed of your R1 is 189mph indicated,"meaning not actual speed" and 168 with the r6 indicated depending on conditions.

Dude! You have the same problem I have! Can't get that piece of shit bike to move from a stop. I gotta get the fella behind me to give me a push every damn time.

Oh dont worry, I get her off the line just nicely:fact, I was just wondering (having never ridden an R6 of that vintage myself) if it would be a factor
oh O! prepare the flame suit dude!!!
flame suit? whatever for? meh ****it, flame away!, I dont care!:flex:
Another one :shake These are almost as bad as the 09 r1 vs s1000rr threads
How is this as bad? Ive not started a thread when there are ten current ones the same . . .:butt :hammer:

Id have thought an R1 forum would be the ideal place to get info on this, theres bugger all info on the net to compare these two, partly because they are different capacity, and partly because of the different years.:fact

I couldnt find a single vid on youtube of an 01R1 and an 04 R6!!:fact

:lol

When you talk about a short twisty track that is technical it's fair to ask how will the R6 compare to the R1, as with the R6 you can pin the throttle pretty much exiting corners where the R1 bites, chews and throws you.

But for Fuk Sakes ... when it comes to Drag and Top end it's OMG STFU time :fact

Wait till chuck norris hears about this :fact

Hey. Romeo, I use my bike purely as a street bike with the odd track day, so gearing change isnt necessary, I dont plan to get into drags, I was just wondering how the two would compare.
I know there was quite alot of development between 2001 and 2004 on the yamaha sports bikes, the 04R6 being injected, and what, 20-30kg lighter than the 01R1? (among other developments)

I was just wondering what kind of results one could expect, I didnt mean for it to get too deep in the semantics!!, assuming the noted bikes, with riders of equal ability who could both get the maximum possible results out of each bike.

it seems the R6 should run 12s down the quarter mile, and the R1 low 10s?
Interesting though, because the last 600 I had,was a 1991 CBR600 (F2) which had around 85000miles (136000km) with no work bar regular services.
I ran that, completely stock, road tyres, no strapping etc, down the quarter and ran 12s all day. they were high 12s, but still, considering the age and kays of that engine, I guess I would have thought the R6 would run maybe low to middle 11s

6.90 bout right for 1/8 mile. R1 should be low 6s or high 5 with good rider. My 2000 r1 ran 10.30 stock, 04 was tad quicker stock. R6 run mid 11 s, high 10s at sea level with ace rider. Trap speeds for 1/4 r1 about 144, r6 @120. Top speed r1 @168, r6 @ 154 or so. Id rather have r1 obviously, for more power, r6 u have to rev hell out of to get them really moving.

My first street bike I've had was an 02 zx6r I geared it -1 +3 and I ran lo 11s all night and best of 11.1 @121.....if your running 12s on an injected bike your a terrible rider..I haven't had my r1 to the track yet but I see easy easy low 10s...don't be afraid of it. Rev the bitch up and slip it as fast as you can without looping it.Don't worry about being on 1 wheel if your not over 45 degrees on a wheelie I don't see it slowing you down too much.

pretty much everyone of these posts are true. i have an 08 that is stretched 8 over and lowered and bone stock with a drag pipe. my first time on a 1/4 mile track with no water box and a bald tire i ran an 11.7 at 120mph. for my first time on a track its pretty descent but i was lookin for faster cuz i know what those bikes can do. if you want speed then go with the r1, if you want torque then go with the r6. wither bike is a good bike and ive seen 600's run 9's with minor bolt ons. good luck in your choice and keep the shiny side up

?? Depends what you guys weigh as well.
I have a hard time pulling low/mid 11's (11.3ish on my 03 w/150whp) because I am 5'10" 225. My friend on my bike consistently pulled 10.5's but he's 6'0 140.

Needless to say I have had to deal with him joking around all the time about how much of a better rider he is (except twisties where I smoke him lol) than me.

If you guys weigh roughly the same then you should start pulling on him around 70-80 and the faster you go the more and more you'll lead him.

Post some races up, on the track of course:sneaky
