Hey You guys,

I want to change my oil, because 800 miles ago I put in YamaLube which I hate.

So I want to put in some synthetic oil. However, 800 miles isn't too much miles, so do I need to switch filter too?

Can I just drain the oil, leave the filter, and put in synthetic.

Or should I just switch the filter?

Thanks,

Im trying to save some $$$ here thats why I dont want to switch the filter.

What don't you like about Yamalube? BTW, I'd change the filter. After all, if you're about to put full synthetic in your bike which isn't cheap, why skimp on the filter?:dunno

What are you saving, 8 dollars for the filter, and a little bit of oil.....

Filter cost me about $14 at the stealership.

Ordering from internet cost about the same or more (since shipping to hawaii is $$$)

So Filter is kind pricey.

About Yamalube:

THis oil is extremely bad on my gears. Its really tough when I shift, and harsh. It might not be the oil, it could be something else, but I want to put in a good oil, before I jump to conclusions.

I’m not following, “Extremely bad on my gears” are you having shifting problems? Before I switched to Motul 5100 (semi-synthetic) I used Yamalube for the first 3k miles with no problems at all (except for the common clutch disengaging phase). Yamalube probably isn’t the best money can buy but it’s not junk either. I doubt the oil is the cause of your problem.

What oil were you using before and how many miles do you have?

in alot of high mileage car enigines that use synthetic to about 6-7k between oil changes, most of people will change the filter every 3k and just replace the lost oil. so no matter what, u drain oil, change filter. just extra protection.

If it has 800 miles on it from 0 I would DEFINATELY change the filter............I alwas change the filter @ 500 miles and theagain at 1000 miles then reg.

reason is before it is completely broke in is when you will have the greatest amount of metal shanings from a new engine......

may be overkill.............but thats what I do
