Alright guys, I'm considering trading my 05 R1 for an 04 R6 + $2k. I've only ever owned liter bikes, but I've been wanting to try out a 600. I'm just afriad I'm going to be realy disapointed in the amount of power I'm giving up.

Any opinions on the 04 R6's?

Have you gone from a liter bike to a 600?

You are going to be taking a big step down in power, plus losing a year on the model. The 04 R6 is the 06+ R6s. It's not a bad bike at all, but after your years on a 1K, it will feel anemic compared to your R1. One of our guys did trade his 04 R1 for a 08 R6 (the newer style and not the S model) and hated it until he traded back up to another R1.
Hope that helps... :thumbup

only 6 i owned was my first bike, 89 fzr 600. guess it depends on why and what you are planning to do, if its a whim to see what you think of a r6 i would not do it. but im sure there are plenty of others who own both or have owned both to give you a better opinion. but it really depends on your reason:dunno

I used to love riding my wifes little Ninja 250 around, in fact I was faster on LCR (the best twisty road in Austin) with her Ninja than I am on my R1.... well through the corners anywase.

But, I could always go home and hop on the R1 that i call The Beast.

I think your right guys, I should just wait untill I can have one of each. The one thing that made it a little more tempting, was getting the extra cash for X-mas. But screw the kids, they'll be just fine with a box of Cracker Jacks:crash;)

I would like to take you up on that offer Frank. I would love to take you for a ride:scared....I mean your bike, yeah, thats what I meant.

Ok, cool. Lets hit up a day at H2R soon. Maybe get Rex to go out one last time before the end of the year too. :)

Depends if he's offering you US $12K cash with the unicycle so you can go grab a 2012 R1 with Traction Control. Then, you'll have the Unicycle you've always wanted as well. :thumbup

Being able to generally cruise around in 3rd gear youll miss. Plus I think that is the old r6 now r6s right? From that place I wouldnt. Either way ride safe and enjoy the bike

Yeap, 05 and earlier R6 is now the 06+ R6S, not the current day R6 track weapon.

I have both!! 03 R6 (which is the same as the 04) and an 04 R1. I jump on the R6 when i wanna just rip thru gears and get a little obnoxious. Brings a lil squiddy grin to my face every time. The R1 just plain slaps you in the face after ridin the 6. Tells you to man up and get with it. You wanted power sir so here ya go. SOOOOOOOOO ADDICTING. So im gonna say stay with the R1

I have one of each in the garage and sure....if I'm deep in the NC mountains on the tightest twisties...the R6 is great but for my overall riding experience...NO WAY I'd take the R6 over my R1 unless I needed the $2k really bad.

These days I don't even ride the R6...the wife does.

if i were to get into another r6, it would not be the 04... at the very least it would be an 05 R6... inverted forks... big difference..

but seriously.. going from an R1 down!?? why!?

No way...don't do it.

In my experience, I had an 06 R1 and an 06 R6 at the same time, and never rode the R6. It's a wheezy, screamy little buzzbox. Having said that...years ago I went from a GSXR 1100 J to a GSXR 750 WT to an NSR 250 SP. I had a brilliant year, riding the wheels off it, but got bored quickly and swapped it back for the 750.
