You would! :rant

Dam perfectionist! :lol

I thought about it, but I'm going back in after the convention to do some tweaking etc. I'll probably do it then since I realized it's a pressurized area and doing it from the inside might help.
it also (I figure) ensures that all of the air that is drawn into the motor is cool & not from the top of the motor.

I've also taken the top of an FZ1 airbox & modified the scoop on it to fit upside down underneath this triangular area.
it faces forward & acts as an additional scoop that stick far enough forward to avoid the heated air from the motor too.

Nice! I'm going to catch a nice idea and post it here someday. Until then, you have this one going well :fact

Sounds interesting! Can you tell us more? Or post pics?

Thanks!

first off, you'll have to excuse the dirty bike. I've been busy swapping parts between it & another to try to diagnose a problem with another guys bike.

you can see that I used orange RTV silicone to seal the entire box.

I don't know what more I can tell, except that the scoop that I added didn't turn out quite as functional is I envisioned when I started.
I would have had to lower the radiator to have the scoop be any larger. as you can see it's pretty much buried behind the lower triple tree.

who can say if it's making a difference in performance or not?

I like to experiment to see what works & what doesn't, for myself & not have to rely on hearsay.
that's not to mean that I don't listen to others opinions or Ideas, only that I weigh what I hear against what I know.

Can i do this for a stock bike?

I read all 35 pages, and no one, no where mentioned if you can do this mod to a stock bike, with no powercommander or different exhaust. As i have an 08 and plan on getting a 3/4 exhaust which includes the y-pipe, if i can just go ahead with this cheap install right now, and not have a problem with my bike running to lean or anything till i get my ehaust, filter, pcIII?

it won't hurt a bit.

30 minutes to get to the smog system.
30 minutes to figure out how to unattach cables from ECU without destroying the plastic connector.
10 minutes to figure out that the triangle plastic piece pops out easy if you push from underneath
3 hours cussing at the engineers who put this system in the tightest space possible.

1 hour to put everything back together once I figured out the right combination of tools to get those damn screws back on.

It might be my imagination, but the bike runs way smoother for me. No jerky feeling when I am riding around, and a smooth deceleration. Either I had a faulty unit, or when i put everything back together, I made sure everything was put together correctly (versus the shop not doing it right).

My fingers are still numb from doing this mod yesterday.

I'm so happy I stumbled onto this thread today.

I've been having a problem where my RPMs will be very loopy in 1st and 2nd. It never threw a code this whole time, either... It just screwed up my rpms. I did the Graves mod the same time I took out my cat. I thought maybe I just needed a retune or something.... Nope.

I saw the pictures in this thread and I was like: I BET I never plugged that AIS hole.

Sure enough, I didn't. I went to Autozone and bought a pack of hose caps ($4.99) that came with 2 3/8" plugs, 2 1/2" plugs, 2 5/8" plugs, and 2 3/4" plugs. It was on the same aisle they keep all the random small parts like o-rings, etc.

Stuck a 3/8" over the hole and the problem is FIXED. :)

this is the problem i'm having after the install..you can also check out this link

ok after installing smog plates I was able to finally take my bike out for a test ride. I was trying to rip it on the highway and around !!k rpm the fuel fells like it just "cuts off" then after a few seconds the bike just jumps with power again..this has been going on and off and it's always around 11Krpm...something sounds "loose" in the airbox i'm gonna open her up and see if i can dig anything...any suggestions?

Hmmmmmm..........2 things

1. what happens with the female end of the harness that plugged into the solinoid, leave it open or loop it closed?

2. for all the work it sounds like is involved in going in from up top I desided to just drop the radiator......as in 3 bolts and let it hang down 3-4 inches. Not remove or drain......no need to unless you have hands like popeye.
